Carlos Alcaraz, currently World No. 1, will play Casper Ruud in the Japan Open semi-finals after a dominant season, having won 50 of his last 53 matches and six titles since April. Alcaraz holds a 4-1 record against Ruud, who has had a less remarkable year and advanced to the semis with a relatively easy draw. Carlos Alcaraz vs Casper Ruud Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz looks to reach a ninth consecutive final when he comes up against Casper Ruud in the Japan Open semi-finals in Tokyo on Monday night.

It's been an incredible season for Alcaraz - he's won 50 of his last 53 matches since April, capturing six titles in that period, including the US Open earlier this month when he conquered rival Jannik Sinner once again. Alcaraz has traditionally struggled at this stage of the season - he's only ever won one title after the US Open, but he's just two wins away from doubling that tally in his debut appearance in Tokyo.

Ruud isn't expected to deliver much of a challenge here. The Norwegian has benefitted from an extremely fortunate draw for an ATP 500 tournament and it goes without saying this is a significant step up in class. Alcaraz has dominated this matchup in the past and if his ankle scare isn't an issue, then the top seed should be advancing into a ninth straight final.

Head To Head

Alcaraz leads 4-1. Ruud won their most-recent clash at the ATP Finals last year, but Alcaraz was nowhere near full fitness.

Carlos Alcaraz Form

Alcaraz has registered a 64-6 record on the season, including going 50-3 since April to reclaim the No. 1 ranking heading into the back-end of the year.

It's truly been an extraordinary run - Alcaraz has picked up titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, Roland Garros, Queen's Club, Cincinnati and the US Open during that period, while he was also the runner-up in Barcelona and Wimbledon.

It will be interesting to see if Alcaraz can maintain this level for the remainder of the year and continue to make finals and win titles during the Asian and European indoor swings.

Despite an ankle scare, Alcaraz has looked relatively untroubled so far in Tokyo, defeating Sebastian Baez, Zizou Bergs and Brandon Nakashima in straight sets to make the semi-finals.

Casper Ruud Form

It's fair to say this has been an underwhelming season for Ruud, who comes into this clash with a 32-12 record on the year.

Ruud did capture his maiden Masters 1000 title on the clay of Madrid in April, but before this tournament, that was the last time he made a semi-final.

The Norwegian lost in the opening round of Cincinnati to Arthur Rinderknech and the second round of the US Open to Raphael Collignon, so it wasn't a fruitful summer on North American hardcourts.

Ruud wasn't expected to be a factor in Tokyo, but he's received a dream draw, facing local wildcard Shintaro Mochizuki, Matteo Berrettini (who is lacking match fitness after another injury layoff) and qualifier Aleksandar Vukic.

Verdict

Alcaraz has been in career-best form over the last few months and has dominated Ruud in their previous meetings.

Ruud has benefitted from a weak draw to make the semis - expect Alcaraz to ease to a one-sided victory and a ninth consecutive final.
