It's common knowledge Zverev hasn't been anywhere near his best this season and he risks a drop down the rankings when his Paris Masters points come off in a few weeks. The German has complained of physical setbacks due to a long season, but the reality is Zverev has been struggling since the Australian Open final and when he had the chance to usurp Jannik Sinner for the No. 1 ranking. Griekspoor meanwhile remains a very dangerous player, winning three of his six meetings with top 10 players in 2025.

One of those victories was over Zverev at Indian Wells and I like Griekspoor to cause more damage on these fast indoor Vienna courts. Zverev has lost three of his four previous Vienna quarter-finals and that was when he was in much better form. Griekspoor's confidence is restored after toppling Sinner in Shanghai and I'm backing the Dutchman to make an impact in this clash.

Head To Head

Zverev leads 8-2, but while those numbers suggest dominance for the German, it's been anything but. In fact, Griekspoor has either taken a set or forced a tiebreak in the last eight completed meetings between the pair.

They've met twice already in completed matches in 2025 - Griekspoor emerged a 4-6 7-6 7-6 winner in Indian Wells before Zverev turned the tables with a 6-7 7-6 6-4 triumph in Munich.

Zverev has compiled a 50-21 record on the season coming into this contest and remains at No. 3 in the world.

However, it hasn't been a good year for Zverev - he's yet to win a Masters 1000 title and suffered early exits at both Wimbledon (R1) and the US Open (R3).

The German's lone title came at home in Munich and he's struggled to make an impact since. Zverev has lost six of his last 11 matches at all levels, including going down to Daniil Medvedev in the Beijing quarter-finals and Arthur Rinderknech in the Shanghai third round.

After going down once more to Taylor Fritz at the Six Kings Slam, Zverev has battled his way into the Vienna quarter-finals after he was fortunate to draw two out-of-form opponents. The 28-year-old needed three sets to make it past Jacob Fearnley before a 6-4 6-4 victory over Matteo Arnaldi.

Tallon Griekspoor Form

It's been a great season for Griekspoor, who heads into this encounter with a 30-22 record and ranked No. 28 in the world, which is just seven spots shy of his career-high achieved in 2023.

Griekspoor's main highlight was winning his third ATP title on the grass of Mallorca, while he was also runner-up in Marrakech, a quarter-finalist at Indian Wells and made the R16 of Roland Garros.

The Dutchman had a rough patch recently, losing seven matches in a row from Bastad through to Beijing.

However, Griekspoor regained his form with a run to the Shanghai Masters R16, defeating Sinner (via retirement in the third set) before running into eventual champion Valentin Vacherot.

The 29-year-old has picked up two good wins in Vienna to reach the quarter-finals, overcoming Karen Khachanov in three sets before taking out Brandon Nakashima 7-6 7-6.

Alexander Zverev v Tallon Griekspoor

Zverev remains well below his best and Griekspoor has proven he can trouble the German multiple times in the past, including beating him this year at Indian Wells.

I'm backing the Dutchman to at least win a set in Vienna.
