It's been another turbulent season for Zverev - he always maintains his spot around the top of the rankings, but when it comes to big matches against elite opponents, he continues to fall by the wayside. It happened again last week, with Zverev going down in straight sets to Taylor Fritz in the Stuttgart final, failing to win a single point in the second set tiebreak. When it comes to the pressure points, Zverev consistently second-guesses himself and it continues to cost him.

However, this is a good first round matchup for Zverev - he's won his last eight consecutive sets against Giron, who has lost 25 of his 31 matches against top 10 players and struggles with his limited weapons vs the game's elite. Another Grand Slam final heartbreak occurred at the Australian Open before Zverev blew a huge chance to rise to World No. 1 for the first time when Jannik Sinner was suspended for three months.

The German struggled considerably on tour and has now dropped to No. 3, winning just one title at home in Munich.

Overall, it's been a very solid season for Giron - he's made quarter-finals at Adelaide and Acapulco, along with a R16 showing at Indian Wells.

There's been a couple of big wins sprinkled in too, with Giron defeating Casper Ruud at Indian Wells and Fritz in Rome, going 2-2 vs top 20 players for the season.

However, Giron does come into this contest on a three-match losing streak, going down in the first round of the French Open to Tallon Griekspoor. Giron has fared well in Halle in the past, reaching the quarter-finals in 2021 and 2024.
