Central Coast were always going to be hard-pressed to repeat their back-to-back Grand Final triumphs, but having lost several key players of their championship-winning squad and then dealing with various injuries, it was always going to be an uphill battle. Brisbane meanwhile have endured another turbulent campaign, but they have actually finished the season strongly, going unbeaten in six of their last nine games and winning two of their last three.
With nothing to lose, I'm backing Over 2.5 goals as the best bet for this game - the Mariners have gone over in six of their last seven games, so I'm expecting an entertaining affair. As far as a winner goes, Brisbane look the most likely out of these two teams based on current form.
- Roar have won two of their last three games
- Mariners have won just one of their last 14 games
- Over 2.5 goals has landed in seven of the Mariners' last eight games
- Five of the last six meetings have produced Over 2.5 goals
Head To Head
The Mariners have dominated this matchup in recent times, winning seven of the last eight encounters between the teams, including a most-recent 3-1 triumph at Suncorp back in Round 12 this season.
Central Coast Mariners Form
It's been a difficult season for the Mariners, with the two-time reigning premiers winning just one of their last 14 games coming into this contest - and that was against last-placed Perth.
Central Coast are confirmed for a bottom four finish, which means they will be heading to Darwin shortly to fight for their spot in the Australia Cup R32.
The Mariners have won just five of their 25 games this season and are winless in three heading into this contest, including copping a 6-0 hiding at the hands of rivals Newcastle before a most-recent 2-2 draw with Macarthur.
Central Coast Mariners Team News
Ryan Edmonson and Brad Tapp remain sidelined for the final game of the season.
Brisbane Roar Form
It's been a tough season for Brisbane, but they have at least showcased some encouraging signs to end the campaign.
Indeed, Brisbane are in eighth spot on the ladder if you only take the last 10 games into consideration, going unbeaten in six of their last nine and winning two of their last three.
The Roar have avoided the wooden spoon with one game remaining, registering some impressive victories over finals-bound Western United (2-1) and Wellington Phoenix (1-0), with the latter being their first win at Suncorp in over a year.
Brisbane Roar Team News
Corey Brown and Ben Warland are still injured for the last game of the season.
Verdict
Over 2.5 goals has been a regular occurrence in Mariners games lately, while four of the last five meetings between the teams have seen 3+ goals.
Brisbane are in superior form to end the season and are backed in the H2H market.
