Adelaide’s carnival begins at Morphettville on Saturday, April 25, with the Group 1 features being the Robert Sangster Stakes and the Australasian Oaks.
The Australasian Oaks is a 2000m feature for fillies, while the Robert Sangster Stakes is unique in its own right as the only Group 1 sprint in Australia restricted to fillies and mares.
Australasian Oaks
While she didn’t run out a strong 2500m when beaten as an odds-on favourite in the VRC Oaks last spring, Getta Good Feeling (barrier 5) has been in very good form either side of that performance, including three Group victories.
One of those wins came over this distance in the Wakeful Stakes on Derby Day, while the Danny O’Brien-trained filly has won both starts this campaign, stepping from 1200m to 1600m last time out when scoring at Caulfield.
She has also since won a Geelong jump-out following that March 21 performance and shapes as a leading contender for the 2026 Australasian Oaks.
Chris Waller is chasing a third Australasian Oaks victory and prepares Panova (barrier 16), who rounded out her spring campaign with back-to-back Group 3 wins.
While unproven at the distance, including a last-start seventh in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes, the filly had been building into the campaign well, highlighted by an eye-catching fifth-of-11 in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes second-up on March 14.
Mating Call (barrier 10) is another key runner, having placed behind Getta Good Feeling over a mile at Flemington in the spring before winning the Group 3 Auraria Stakes last start, one of the key lead-ups to the Australasian Oaks.
Salty Pearl (barrier 3) is also coming through the Vinery Stud Stakes, finishing third there after a strong Caulfield win over a mile, and has since completed a Cranbourne jump-out on April 13.
Another interesting acceptor is last season’s VRC Oaks winner Strictly Business (barrier 19), who has been well beaten in both starts this campaign but must be respected off her spring form lines.
Her Group 1 victory was recorded third-up in that preparation.

Robert Sangster Stakes
Spelled after a third-place finish on debut in the spring of 2024, Point Barrow (barrier 16) impressed throughout a lengthy second campaign, winning four of five starts, with the latest a stylish Group 3 victory up the Flemington straight on Oaks Day.
While she didn’t deliver on resumption in the Oakleigh Plate, the filly quickly rebounded with a Group 3 win at Caulfield on March 21, which was run over this distance.
Generosity (barrier 1) brings strong Sydney form, winning the Challenge Stakes on resumption, a race that has already produced multiple subsequent Group winners.
She was then competitive in The Galaxy, a Group 1 sprint on Golden Slipper Day, and now steps to 1200m to contest this feature.
Skybird (barrier 13) has also been building well this campaign, finishing third in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes on the opening day of The Championships.
Her standout performance came earlier in 2025 when she took out the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning up the Flemington straight.
Benedetta (barrier 4) has been competitive at Group 1 level for an extended period, highlighted by a win in the 2024 Goodwood during the Adelaide Carnival after placing in that year’s Robert Sangster Stakes.
Charm Stone (barrier 15) claimed the 2025 edition of this race and later added another Group 1 victory in the spring when successful in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Super Smink (barrier 9) won on Adelaide debut in the RN Irwin Stakes on April 11, a key lead-up to this race, and the Western Australian galloper was also a Group 2 winner second-up last spring.
