Penrith Panthers vs Sydney Roosters NRL 2025 Round 2 FAQ’s

Sydney were blown out of the park with Brisbane putting a half century on them in Round 1, struggling all over the park, with their forwards unable to match the Broncos which opened up a world of space on the edges.

They now face the Panthers, who they have not beaten in 5 seasons and have been defeated heavily over those years. Penrith had a strong start to their 4th title defence beating contender Cronulla in Vegas.

This game only goes in one direction and that is a hefty defeat for the Roosters, who will not be able to crack the Penrith defence, who will hold them under 14.5 points. Paul Alamoti will reap the benefits of a sluggish right side defence of the Roosters and will cross the line, just as he did on the glitter strip

Penrith have beaten Sydney by 20 points or more in 3 of their last 4 meetings.
Roosters have failed to cover the line in 5 of their last 6 matches.
The Roosters have scored 14 points or less in 6 of their last 8 games against Penrith.
Roosters conceded 44% of their tries last week down their right edge.

Head to Head

Penrith have won their last 10 matches against Sydney, with their last loss being back in the 2019 season.

The Panthers destroyed the Roosters in week 1 of the 2024 NRL Finals, scoring 4 tries in the first 22 minutes, running away with the match 30-10.

The Panthers battled hard for their Round 1 victory over top-contenders Cronulla, beating the Sharks 28-22 with a Daine Laurie try in the 76th-minute sealing it for the Premiers.

Penrith dominated the territory in the first half and amassed a 24-10 lead 13 minutes into the second half, doing what they do best and protecting a double-digit advantage, although this time only just.

Without his partner in crime Jarome Luai, Nathan Cleary was in full control of the Panthers team, finishing with 1 linebreak assist, 1 try assist and kicking 633 of the Panther’s 666 kick metres in the match.

The Roosters did it tough in Round 1, going down dramatically 50-14 against the Brisbane Broncos at Allianz Stadium.

If it wasn’t for captain James Tedesco, it would've been a lot more but the Roosters team captain constantly made plays to diffuse the electric attack of the Broncos.

With new halves and new centres, along with changes in the engine room and on top of that, losing Victor Radley in the first half, made an opening round victory impossible for Easts.

With Sandon Smith and Chad Townsend in the halves, the Roosters lacked direction and creativity and barely got a chance with their forwards getting pummeled through the middle of the park which opened them up to concede 10 linebreaks in the match.
