The New Zealand Warriors face the Gold Coast Titans in NRL Round 21, aiming to bolster their top-four standing. Despite a last-minute win over Newcastle, the Warriors need to improve, with key player Luke Metcalf injured. The Titans struggle at the season's bottom, with key players like Tino Fa'asuamaelaui sidelined. Despite recent losses, they've been competitive. The Warriors are predicted to win narrowly, thanks to their robust defense and the rising star Leka Halasima. Expect a tight match with under 48.5 total points.

With the resurgent Broncos breathing down their necks, the Warriors have taken advantage of a soft draw over the last fortnight and will be hoping to make it three wins on the trot over bottom eight sides when they host the embattled Titans here.

The Warriors escaped with a last-minute 20-15 victory on the road over Newcastle last week, with teenage sensation Leka Halasima scoring a runaway 40m try to secure his side a vital two points. It wasn't a convincing performance by any means and the Warriors will need considerable improvement if they are to seriously challenge for the premiership - especially with Luke Metcalf sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, what else can we say about the Titans? The club is in shambles, anchored to the bottom of the ladder and now captain Tino Fa'asuamaelaui is out with a knee injury. Des Hasler is set for his first wooden spoon and it's tough to see what Gold Coast can do to be competitive for the final rounds of the season after suffering a heartbreaking last-minute defeat to the Tigers last week.

I'm not really convinced with the Warriors' form at the moment and to their credit, the Titans haven't been too bad lately. I'm backing the Warriors 1-12, with the match going Under 48.5 total points (Andrew Webster's side are struggling without Metcalf in attack, but have been strong defensively all year), while 19-year-old Halasima can continue his remarkable form by scoring another four-pointer.

  • Warriors are unbeaten vs current bottom eight teams in 2025
  • Eight of the Warriors' 12 wins in 2025 have been by a 1-12 margin
  • Titans have lost 12 of their last 14 games
  • Titans' last three defeats have been by a 1-12 margin
  • Seven of the Warriors' last nine games have seen Under 48.5 points
  • Three of the Titans' last five games have seen Under 48.5 points
  • Leka Halasima has scored five tries in his last six games

Head To Head

The Titans have actually enjoyed lots of success in this matchup lately, winning five of the last six meetings between the teams - including a most-recent 66-6 demolition job in Round 16 last year, with Alofiana Khan-Pereira scoring four tries.

New Zealand Warriors Form Analysis

Even though the Warriors have been nestled comfortably inside the top four for most of the season, I haven't been entirely convinced with their premiership credentials - but they keep grinding away and luck seems to remain on their side.

Half of the Warriors' 12 wins this season have been by six points or less - including their epic last-ditch triumph over the Knights last week, where they were second-best for basically the entire contest.

Tanah Boyd had a shocker with his kicking game, missing simple penalty goal and field goal attempts, but Leka Halasima came to the rescue with a sensational 40m individiual effort off a charge down to hand the Warriors a 20-15 win.

The Warriors remain four points clear of the Broncos, but they will need to raise their level for the remainder of the season if they are to lock down a top four place.

Big in for the Warriors, with metre eater Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad returning from a knee injury at fullback, meaning Taine Tuaupiki drops out of the side.

Gold Coast Titans Form Analysis

It's been another nightmare season for the Titans - they're anchored to the bottom of the ladder with just four wins from their 17 games.

Gold Coast have zero direction at the moment and Hasler is almost certainly set to be sacked come the end of the season.

To be fair to the Titans, they haven't been awful over the last month or so - they beat Manly 28-8 before going down to the Eels (36-20), Cowboys (30-24), Broncos (26-14) and Tigers (21-20).

It was heartbreak for the Titans at Leichhardt last week - they were the better side, but couldn't put the Tigers away and they paid the ultimate price when a wobbly field goal from Adam Doueihi condemned them to a 13th loss of the season.

Verdict

The Warriors should secure another victory, but eight of their 12 wins this season have come by a 1-12 margin and the Titans haven't been blown away lately, so a close win for the hosts is tipped.

Leka Halasima has emerged as a genuine superstar and can grab another meat pie at Go Media.
