Rosehill stages a strong Saturday program headlined by the Group 2 Hill Stakes, with the Alan Brown Stakes, The Nivison, and Listed Schweppes Tapp-Craig Stakes adding further depth to the card.

Rosehill Tips October 11

TAB Highway Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 1 No. 6 Win The Day

It was still a pass mark first-up at Canberra despite being beaten as favourite, with the run suggesting she’ll take plenty of improvement from it.

Win The Day should be able to settle much closer here, especially from a low draw and getting out over a longer trip that’s more suitable.

Her second-up record reads well and both previous Highway attempts carry merit, including the fastest last 400m of a Scone edition over autumn.

Two starts prior she was brave without luck in a Randwick Highway, finishing runner-up after covering ground throughout the run.

With that foundation and the right setup, Win The Day ticks enough boxes to appeal at a genuine bolter’s quote.

Midway Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 2 No. 5 Modella

Modella has been building nicely this campaign and now drops back to Midway company, where she looks ideally placed for a breakthrough.

Her second-up effort in the Group 2 Golden Pendant was honest considering the unsuitable set-up and stronger opposition.

The 1200m trip might be on the short side, but she arguably wins over that distance had she drawn a gate when resuming here on September 13 in this same grade.

Barrier six gives her the ideal platform to race handier and she should take another step forward third-up with fitness on her side.

Back in class and drawn to get every chance, Modella stands out as the clear top pick on the card.

Schweppes Tapp-Craig Tips (Race 5)

Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Farnicle

Being out of a New Zealand Oaks winner, Farnicle should furnish as the distances increase and getting to 1400m looks ideal off his 1100m resumption.

He ran the fastest last 400m and 200m of the Heritage Stakes and the overall splits rated well, with the second-fastest last 400m and third-fastest last 200m of the entire Golden Rose Day program.

Those figures underline the strength of his closing speed and suggest he’ll relish a more suitable tempo here.

His only previous try at the distance resulted in a second behind gun juvenile Cool Archie and he didn’t relish testing ground there.

With natural progression and a rise in distance, Farnicle looks primed to build on that encouraging return.

The Nivison Tips (Race 7)

Rosehill Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Infancy

Infancy’s get-back pattern means she’ll always need a touch of luck, but when the race shape suits, she’s capable of producing a devastating finish.

She has class on her side and conditions to suit here — good ground, 1200m, and resuming fresh — all positive factors.

The Australian Bloodstock mare landed the cash for us at long odds first-up in a tougher race back in April, confirming her quality.

That form line stacked up beautifully with Commemorative bolting in next start before a luckless Group 1 attempt, while third and fourth home, Lady Laguna and Tashi, are both Group 1 winners.

If the tempo is genuine early, she’ll be closing hard late and looks a strong each-way chance fresh.

Alan Brown Stakes Tips (Race 9)

Rosehill Feature Bet - Race 9 No. 9 Tavi Time

Dropping back slightly in trip from 1500m to 1400m shouldn’t be a big issue for Tavi Time given his versatility across a range of distances.

He’s proven effective from 1250m right through to 2000m and looks perfectly placed second-up in this company.

His record when resuming and beyond is sound — three wins and a second from five second-up runs, with the only miss being on a heavy track in the Hawkesbury Cup.

The Cameron Handicap return was excellent, producing the fastest last 800m, 600m and 400m of the race despite being held up at a vital stage.

With that run behind him and the right set-up here, Tavi Time can run another strong race and be right in the mix late.
