Two Group 1 features headline the meeting, with the Australasian Oaks and Robert Sangster Stakes drawing strong fields, while a deep supporting card rounds out one of the standout days of the autumn.

Morphettville Tips April 25

Race 1 - 12:41PM Lest We Forget Handicap Tips (1200m)

7. Vangogh Bankcheque looks to get his chance here, crossing the border for the Kennewell camp with blinkers back on. The three-year-old has only had four starts, and this shapes as a soft option to get back to the winner’s stall.

He showed good ability in his first campaign, highlighted by an eye-catching debut victory, and followed that up with a good Flemington run before a spell. He returned at the same track in a much stronger affair in March, and while beaten as an odds-on favourite on April 6 off a freshen-up at Sandown, he was also unsuited by the race shape. Needs to deliver now.

1. Dobbinair is close to win number four after catching the eye with the fastest last 200m of the Morphettville program on April 11, where he was third-up off a long spell and should now be nearing peak fitness. Ideally, he can settle closer in the run this time around, having shown more tactical speed as a youngster.

3. Hypernova was held up at key stages in the same BM70 on April 11 that Dobbinair contested and there was money for him in that first-up attempt. Returning to firmer ground suits.

8. My Zephyr was outclassed at Flemington three starts ago, but form otherwise has been solid, including a Pakenham win on March 19 and a third at Stawell last time. The quinella from that race both won at their next starts.

Selections: 7-1-3-8.

Race 2 - 1:16PM Sportsbet Breeders' Stakes Tips (1200m)

1. Ole Go comes up in a race that has been kind to favourites in recent years, with the last four short market elects all saluting. It has also proven a handy form race going forward, with the likes of See You In Heaven, Growing Empire and Legacy Bound all winning this two-year-old feature.

He impressed via a debut win in January, and the form through the runner-up Big Wigs was excellent, and he only narrowly had his colours lowered at his April 11 resumption, racing a little fresh after doing some work, while the winner had a softer run in transit. The Michael Hickmott-trained colt strips fitter and looks the class runner.

6. Verzain is on the second line of betting after defeating Ole Go on April 11, and the filly had earlier shown ability when resuming on March 28. She may not have the same ceiling, but she is racing consistently.

7. Wonderful Sky is a well-bred filly from the same family as Group 1 winners Estijaab and Response. Narrowly beaten on debut before a Pakenham win that had style.

8. Gimonnet was well held on debut behind both Ole Go and Verzain, but 1200m should suit and there is natural improvement to come.

Selections: 1-6-7-8.

Race 3 - 1:52PM PFD Food Services Chairman's Stakes Tips (2000m)

2. Mcwoody doesn’t do himself many favours with a lack of tactical speed, but he is still racing well and building into this three-year-old feature off second and third-up wins, the latest in the Port Adelaide Guineas where he sustained a wide run. Getting to 2000m looks suitable.

The Victoria Derby came too soon in his first prep, but the ability was evident early, overcoming trouble to win on debut before a competitive Group 3 performance. This is no harder than what he faced a fortnight ago.

14. Angling Angel was well supported in the Auraria Stakes, the main Australasian Oaks lead-up, but didn’t figure after being set a big task. She looked a progressive middle-distance type prior and draws kinder here.

8. Impulsive Reaction was plain at Cranbourne last time, but this stable can bounce them back and he showed promise prior, rattling home to just miss on debut before a maiden win.

3. Wigmore is an interesting Kiwi addition for the Stokes stable, last seen finishing fourth in the New Zealand Derby and now on Australian debut.

Selections: 2-14-8-3.

Race 4 - 2:27PM Sportsbet Queen Of The South Stakes Tips (1600m)

3. Blindedbythelight resumed in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes and gave a strong sight, only lacking the brilliance late of Idle Flyer. That form has been franked, with the winner going on to take out the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf.

The daughter of Shamus Award put together a winning hat-trick early last campaign before holding her own in Group company through the spring, and remains a lightly raced mare with upside. With that recent form reference from Randwick, she is a deserving favourite.

13. Brave Miss could be the blowout second-up after a big run at Caulfield carrying 61kg, where she had little go her way and still recorded the fastest last 200m of the meeting. Drops sharply in weight and getting to a mile suits.

2. On Display brings class, having been luckless in this race last year before winning the Adelaide Guineas. Not at her best this time in, but a firmer track suits.

4. Cilacap was okay in two Sydney runs and is better this way of going, including the latest at Caulfield where she worked through inferior ground.

Selections: 3-13-2-4.

Race 5 - 3:02PM Sportsbet John Hawkes Stakes Tips (1100m)

This was formerly the DC McKay Stakes and remains one of the traditional lead-ups to The Goodwood. A competitive field has been assembled for 2026, with a mix of locals and Victorian visitors.

15. Grand Larceny comes through the Hawkes yard, so it would be fitting in a race now named in honour of Hall of Fame trainer John Hawkes. He has been consistent and could well have been set for this fresh with three autumn jump-outs, bringing versatility across conditions. Honest, and getting down to the 54kg minimum gives him a sniff.

4. Niance has to be the starting point on class, although it’s unclear where she is at after that spring. The form around Giga Kick and Tropicus still reads strongly, and the latest jump-out was encouraging.

6. New York Lustre was spelled after a Group 3 win on Derby Day and has won both Cranbourne jump-outs leading in.

17. Sixteen Reasons could be a local bolter for exotics, with decent fresh stats and capable of a strong finish.

Selections: 15-4-6-17.

Race 6 - 3:37PM Sportsbet Tobin Bronze Stakes Tips (1200m)

It’s a strong edition of the Tobin Bronze Stakes, with a mix of established three-year-olds coming through different form lines. Several runners are looking to bounce back, and it shapes as another key Goodwood lead-up, with two of the last three winners of this race going on to take out that feature a fortnight later.

16. Extragalactic is progressing well. She showed above-average ability in her first campaign and has come back with a big first-up win before stepping to metro company at Caulfield with ease. This is another rise, but she is trending the right way and should be charging late.

4. Rosberg had a big boom on him early and justified it with a debut win, but his two runs since have been poor and he won’t remain a colt if there’s another flop. The jump-out win since was sharp.

1. Legacy Bound won on this program last year in the Breeders’ Stakes and is better suited back on firmer ground after a plain second-up effort.

8. Lawborough could improve sharply, with his only failure coming on wet ground after impressing with back-to-back wins.

Selections: 16-4-1-8.

Race 7 - 4:12PM Sportsbet Australasian Oaks Tips (2000m)

2. Getta Good Feeling looks to have been set for this, with Danny O’Brien timing the campaign well, and she comes off a jump-out win since her second-up victory at Caulfield on March 21 as an odds-on favourite.

That win came stepping from 1200m to 1600m after a surprise first-up victory in the Inglis Sprint up the Flemington straight, and there wasn’t much to fault through her second campaign as she progressed through the grades.

She overcame trouble to win third-up in a Group 2 over a mile, then placed at Group 1 level in the Thousand Guineas, before delivering at an odds-on quote in the Wakeful Stakes over this trip. The VRC Oaks at 2500m stretched her, and a testing 2000m would be the main query.

5. Mating Call comes through the Auraria Stakes, looking to complete that double, with Sopressa the most recent to do so back in 2018.

She was stylish winning that Group 3 third-up and getting to 2000m should hold no fears, having built nicely this preparation and arriving here fourth-up with a solid grounding from her first campaign after that eye-catching Balaklava debut win.

14. Just Kick showed plenty in her first prep and looks to have turned a corner from an average spring, producing respectable closing splits when resuming behind Getta Good Feeling and again working through the line last start when unsuited.

10. Savitri is still learning but arrives off back-to-back wins and will likely be prominent. The query is whether she can settle enough to run a strong 2000m.

Selections: 2-5-14-10.

Race 8 - 4:48PM Sportsbet Robert Sangster Stakes Tips (1200m)

17. Point Barrow comes into this off an impressive second campaign that saw her win four of five starts, culminating in a stylish Group 3 victory up the Flemington straight on Oaks Day, and she quickly established herself as one of the more exciting up-and-coming sprinters heading into the autumn.

Her 2026 return came as favourite in the Oakleigh Plate, where she produced only an even effort that left the jury slightly out.

She quickly responded with a comfortable win in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes, putting that run behind her, and following that March 21 success the Freedman camp has kept her on the fresh side with this Group 1 target in mind.

1. Skybird brings the best exposed form into this, with last year’s Black Caviar Lightning winner having run third in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at weight-for-age behind Joliestar and Giga Kick.

Her fresh run in the Challenge Stakes was solid without being spectacular, but she improved second-up, and is also a previous Group 2 winner over this track-and-trip during the 2024 Adelaide Carnival.

11. Ameena profiles as a runner not to overlook, with all three career wins coming early in preparations and a strong first-up profile, including a second in this feature last year.

4. Benedetta has been better than her form reads this preparation and was placed in this race in 2024 before going on to win The Goodwood.

Selections: 17-1-11-4.

Race 9 - 5:18PM Thomas Farms Handicap Tips (1600m)

11. Stirrup Cup showed potential through his three-year-old season, including a Listed placing in last year’s Adelaide Guineas. The recent Oakbank return was a pass mark given he struck inferior ground and was backed at a price there, and he has completed a trial since April leading into this.

The second-up record is strong, having never finished out of the money, including a second to Air Assault last spring, a seven-time stakes winner who then went on to win again at Listed level before a fair effort in a strong Cranbourne Cup. The 1600m looks his sweet spot.

7. Maracourt just missed for us first-up at a big price at Oakbank, arriving off good lead-up work. Frustrating to miss there, but it suggested he’s back on track, and with a good strike rate at the mile, the extra trip suits second-up.

1. Chicago Storm has been a grand campaigner, with the seven-year-old chasing his 12th win. He does carry weight, but has enough class to give this a shake, while he has four wins and a second from six third-up runs.

10. Scandalize heads the market and is the form runner chasing a hat-trick. This is harder, but he'll settle handy and drops 4.5kg from his April 11 win.

Selections: 11-7-1-10.
