For Race 5, 'Shmoov Moova' is identified as a key pick, expected to perform well at a suitable distance. Ascot Tips April 25

The Last Post Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Ascot Best Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Ladies Pro

Ladies Pro brings strong first prep form, including a fourth-of-13 finish in the Group 2 WA Guineas before a spell.

She looked well placed resuming in a similar affair on April 11 and duly delivered for the Williams stable under William Pike, who stays aboard.

The filly is a short price again and meets Split The Gee on less favourable terms, although that rival had a soft run in that clash and could not capitalise.

Ladies Pro looks the more progressive of the pair going forward.

With improvement to come second-up over 1400m and staying against her own age despite the 60kg, she looks well placed again.

RSLWA Trophy Tips (Race 5)

Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Shmoov Moova

Shmoov Moova has been costly for punters since saluting second-up at Belmont earlier in the season.

He was still competitive in those subsequent spring runs, although many came over distances that did not suit.

While he has a narrow 1400m win on his record, 1000m to 1200m does look his range.

His exposed form supports that, with two wins from two starts over the Ascot 1000m and effectiveness when stepping to six furlongs.

This is a little weaker than what he was contesting last campaign, and he arrives off a very slick trial win at Belmont on April 13, comfortably the fastest 1000m heat of the morning.

Sheila Gwynne Classic Tips (Race 7)

Ascot Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Earthstorm

The obvious knock is the winning strike-rate, though she has been racing well in similar company.

She resumed with a third in the Marjorie Charleson Classic behind London’s Image, who heads this market.

That form was franked by Cessation last Saturday.

The daughter of Calyx was first-up in that April 11 run, whereas many of the main fancies here are deeper into their campaigns, so she may have improvement to come.

With little separating these mares, Earthstorm looks an each-way play in a tricky penultimate.

Banks Avenue Memorial Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Ascot Value Bet - Race 8 No. 10 The Calabrese

Despite building a tidy record with three wins and three seconds from 11 starts, The Calabrese remains a work in progress.

The Gangemi-trained four-year-old has shown plenty of raw talent but still needs to tidy up his racing manners.

He resumes off a solid Belmont trial on April 13, where he was snagged back early before working home nicely with something in hand.

The step straight to 1200m is a slight query, given he has previously resumed over shorter trips.

However, with upside still evident, The Calabrese looks capable of featuring each-way in the finale.
