The Supercars season returns at Symmons Plains after a month-long break, and Tasmania arrives at a crucial point in the championship fight. Just 46 points cover Broc Feeney, Matt Payne and Brodie Kostecki at the top, while pressure is already building around the Finals cut line.
Symmons Plains remains one of the most unique circuits on the calendar. The short 2.4km layout produces sub-55 second laps, massive braking zones and relentless pressure across every lap. The long straights create overtaking opportunities into Turn 1 and the Turn 4 hairpin, while the tight final sector punishes small mistakes.
Triple Eight arrive leading both the drivers’ and teams’ standings, but Tickford sense opportunity. Cam Waters has strong historical form in Tasmania and debuts a brand-new Mustang after the team spent the break trying to solve its qualifying issues. Grove Racing also loom as a major threat after Matt Payne’s brilliant 2025 victory and Kai Allen’s breakout run through New Zealand.

Supercars Tasmania Super440 Qualifying Tips
Qualifying around Symmons Plains is always brutal. The short lap leaves no room for mistakes, traffic becomes a major issue and hundredths of a second regularly split entire rows of the grid.
Cam Waters shapes as one of the strongest qualifying contenders this weekend. Tickford spent the break focusing heavily on fixing its one-lap weaknesses, and Waters already ranks among the best performers at Tasmania in the Gen3 era. Thomas Randle also traditionally qualifies well here and could easily feature in the Shootout.
Broc Feeney remains the benchmark after dominating much of 2026, but Grove Racing’s outright speed makes Matt Payne and Kai Allen genuine threats. Allen especially looks dangerous after claiming his maiden win in Christchurch and now carries momentum into one of the most compressed qualifying circuits of the season.
Expect extremely tight sessions with strategy, tyre prep and track evolution likely deciding pole.
Supercars Tasmania Super440 Race Tips
Tasmania rarely produces clean or predictable racing. Strategy, tyre degradation and safety cars often completely reshape the order, especially in the longer Sunday race.
Waters feels overdue for a breakthrough victory. His race pace has remained strong all season, and Tickford believe they have finally addressed the qualifying weakness that hurt them in Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand. If Waters starts near the front, he becomes a major threat immediately.
Feeney still enters as the safest overall championship pick thanks to Triple Eight’s consistency, while Payne continues to look incredibly composed in longer races. Kai Allen also cannot be ignored after his breakout Christchurch weekend.
Further back, Jack Le Brocq and Jayden Ojeda shape as genuine smokies. Matt Stone Racing historically performs well at Symmons Plains, while PremiAir’s race pace has quietly improved every round.
Expect aggressive racing, late moves into the hairpin and at least one dramatic safety car moment across the weekend.
