Both the Saints and the Bulldogs are coming off tough losses and will be keen to get the result on Easter Sunday. The Bulldogs gave up a 39-point lead to Brisbane and the worry for the young group is that they will be deflated and the Saints will be ready to pounce.

I’ve rated the Saints early this season, but they were brought back to earth against the Giants who are a level above, however, the Bulldogs are not and I will even be having a splash on the Saints to get the win as the double-digit dog.
Jack McCrae will not be shut down like he was against the Giants and he will orchestrate the movements that will unlock his forward line. Expect an entertaining contest on Sunday with plenty of goals and Mitch Owens kicking a double after getting an egg against GWS last week.

  • St Kilda have won their last 5 matches at Marvel Stadium.
  • 10 of the last 14 Western Bulldogs matches at Marvel Stadium have gone over the game total.
  • 4 of 5 St Kilda matches have gone over the game total in 2025.
  • Mitch Owens has kicked 2 or more goals in 3 of 4 matches this season.

Head to Head

The Western Bulldogs and St Kilda Saints have traded 40+ wins over the last two seasons with the Dogs winning last year's battle 124-64 while the Saints won 92-41 in 2023.

St Kilda hold a slight 4-3 lead in the head to head count since 2019.

How much wind that was taken out of the lungs of the Western Bulldogs after coughing up a 39-point lead to the Brisbane Lions in Round 5 will be the talking point this weekend when the Dogs face the Saints.

A wounded and battered Dogs put up a monstrous effort in the first half against the Lions to lead by 33 points at the main break, extending that by another goal early in the third. The chances then dried up with the Bulldogs kicking 5.5 in the second half while Brisbane found their legs in the 30-degree heat and kicked 14.5 in the second half to win by 21.

As much as the Dogs have been courageous to start the year with key players like Marcus Bontempelli & Cody Weightman out of the lineup, it has taken its toll. The Bulldogs are able to stay in games or even be in control early but don’t have the gas to keep up the pace for four quarters.

The Saints put up a galant fight early against the favoured GWS but didn’t take their chances early in the second quarter and the Giants capitalized taking full control of the contest, beating St Kilda 110-82.

GWS identified the threat that was Jack McCrae and held the veteran to just 17 possessions in the match, well below the 30+ disposals he has averaged this season. The focus of the Saints has been on improving their attack this year, however, their defensive structure was blown away by the orange tsunami.

The loss has the Saints at 3-2 this season after three consecutive wins before heading into the match against the Giants. Their ability to limit their opponents’ contested possessions has been their strength ranked fourth in the AFL. The Saints have worked the ball out of their midfield and defensive half back line and looked to be an improved side in 2025.
