Port Adelaide Power vs Fremantle Dockers AFL Round 22 Tips - Port to cover in tight matchup with Dockers

Port Adelaide Power face the Fremantle Dockers in AFL 2025 Round 22. While Fremantle holds a more recent victorious record, Port Adelaide is expected to leverage their home advantage and cover the large point spread. Despite Port's recent inconsistencies, Rozee's return could prove pivotal. The Dockers haven't won in Adelaide since 2012, adding pressure on their performance. Betting trends suggest a close match finish, with a likelihood the game total goes under. Key players like Josh Treacy and Connor Rozee are worth watching for goals and disposals respectively.

This is a dangerous spot for the Dockers. They have a poor record at Adelaide Oval having lost 3 straight and 6 of their last 8 at the ground. They have not beaten Port at home since Round 7 2012 losing 7 straight in the city of churches against the Power.

They have every right to be confident given they have won 4 straight and 10 of their last 11 heading into this weekend but anyone that knows Freo can tell you, this is the kind of game that has bred distrust for so many years.

Port Adelaide were not good last weekend against Geelong and their inconsistencies this season seem to stem from the top. The coaching handover is not going well and in their last two matches they have allowed a combined 286 points to their opponents.

It is so difficult to pick these games but the expectation is that Port regain some composure back at home and with Rozee back on the park. They will probably not win but 12 of 20 games for the Dockers this season have finished with a margin less than 27.5 which indicates a relatively tight finish.

Back Port Adelaide to cover the line as the Home Underdog and the Game Total to go Under as is the trend both in this matchup and the AFL this season. Josh Treacy returned to goalscoring form last week, back him in for 2+ and Connor Rozee 25+ touches in his return.

  • The Dockers have not beaten Port in Adelaide since 2012 and 12 of 20 games for Freo this year have been decided by 27.5 points or less.
  • The Home Underdog is covering at 50% this year in the AFL.
  • Josh Treacy is averaging 1.8 goals per game at 66% accuracy, the best for any Docker. He kicked 3 last weekend vs Carlton.
  • Connor Rozee is averaging 27.8 disposals per game and has had 25+ in 3 of his last 5 games.

Head to Head

Fremantle won the most recent matchup at Optus Stadium earlier this year 100-51 but it is Port Adelaide who hold a 6-3 record in the Head to Head since 2019. They have won all 3 games played at Adelaide Oval during that span.

The Game Total has gone Under in 4 straight and 5 of the last 9 matchups while the winning margin has stayed 1-39 in 6 of the last 9.

Port Adelaide have had an underwhelming season. With arguably some of the best players in the AFL in their squad they have been unable to stand up to the pressure from their opponents and turn their perceived advantage into actual points.

They are ranked last in Disposal Efficiency, 16th in Contested Possessions and 17th in Turnovers. They are 7-13 ATS this season and have taken punters on a wild ride.

They were crushed last weekend by Geelong 153-65, kicking more behinds than goals for the 10th time this year. They managed just 33 Inside 50’s and even though they won the Hitouts 58-26 lost the clearance battle on the ground.

Connor Rozee should be good to go following a bout of illness, similar for Logan Evans. Jase Burgoyne is out with a leg injury but Port could welcome back Jack Lukosius, Jacob Moss and Willie Rioli.

Fremantle survived an early scare against the Blues last weekend to regain composure and see out a 94-67 victory which propelled them up the ladder. They now sit 5th, only behind Geelong in 4th spot on percentage.

The Dockers were outplayed in the middle early on with Centre Clearances 11-1 to their opponent in the first half. They were able to wrestle back momentum around the ground with Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson dominating stoppages and feeding the ball to the mids who got the team on the front foot again.

Patrick Voss is having a breakout year, he has kicked 12 goals in his last 3 games all while creating pressure in the forward 50 when his opponents have the ball.
