Port Adelaide Power vs Carlton Blues AFL Tips - Blues dig deep against Port

The Port Adelaide Power and Carlton Blues face off in a crucial Round 16 match, both eager to compensate for underperforming seasons. Experts predict a low-scoring game with Carlton, thanks to their superior defense, expected to secure a victory. Key player George Hewitt is poised to be a standout, with his midfield prowess likely to trouble Port Adelaide. With the match crucial for both teams' chances to stay in finals contention, Carlton's defensive capabilities and offensive potential are forecasted to give them the edge.

Port Adelaide Power vs Carlton Blues, Round 16 2025 - Expert Prediction

Tough one to call with both of these teams underperforming and outside the eight so I’m taking the points with Carlton as the underdog in a low scoring match.

I wouldn’t want to be in the dressing room of either club at the moment with another loss almost ruling them out for the season, potentially falling three wins outside of finals contention.

The call on this one was basically picking the best of the worst and I see more potential in Carlton than I do in Port Adelaide at the moment. Defensively, the Blues are sound, ranked third in points conceded this season and that has to count for something. It still feels like it is just a matter of time before their forward line converts the incredible amount of chances that they are given by their backline and mids.

Carlton’s superior defence and ability to create opportunities should see them get past the Power, who lack the ability to win the contested possessions and stoppages. George Hewitt will be a thorn in Port’s side in the middle and will continue his quality productivity as he does his part to lift Carlton from their slump.

  • Port Adelaide have lost 3 of their last 4 games at home this season.
  • Carlton are ranked 4th in inside 50s vs Port Adelaide's defence ranked 12th
  • 6 of the last 7 Port Adelaide games have gone under the game total.
  • George Hewitt has averaged 31.66 disposals in his last 3 matches.

Head to Head

Port and Carlton split the chocolates in 2024, both winning away from home. Carlton drew first blood with a 107-71 victory in Adelaide before the Power returned serve with a 79-65 victory at Marvel Stadium.

Carlton have won three of the last 4 matches, dating back to the 2022 season.

5 of the last 6 matches between Port and Carlton have gone over the game total.

Both teams have covered the line 4 times in the last 8 matches.

After a couple of positive weeks, beating GWS and Melbourne the Power threw it all away with a 71-52 loss to the Sydney Swans at Adelaide last weekend.

I am tired of ranting on about their inaccuracy, but once again a 7.10 performance hurt them and even more so with the Swans dominating the territory with 16 more inside 50s than the Power.

There are bigger problems for Port Adelaide than just their aim and the game against the Swans highlighted them even more. Sydney dominated Port at the stoppages and also in contested possessions, two areas where the Power have been lacking in 2025.

Port ranks 17th in centre clearances and 16th in contested possession while ranking 18th in opposition contested possessions and points from stoppages. This is a clear point of attack for their opposition and Sydney executed with precision and have shown the rest of the league how to beat Port. That is if they don’t beat themselves.

Carlton’s season is now hangin on by a thread and so is Michael Voss’s time at the club after an embarrassing 84-73 loss to North Melbourne last weekend.

Carlton failed to kick a goal from midway through the first quarter until 10 minutes into the third term, trailing by 46 points heading into the fourth quarter. A late revival wasn’t enough and the Blues season is starting to tatter.

As poor as Carlton have been, I am not ready to put a line through them just yet, but maybe soon. Carlton’s usually reliable forward line are struggling at the moment and are extremely wasteful. Carlton are ranked fourth in inside 50s, however they are 15th in goals per inside 50.

If the Blues can settle in their forward 50 they are a chance, we can’t forget that they rank third, averaging just 76.5 points against per game.
