Sydney are still struggling somewhat with injuries to their squad while the Suns will play two consecutive games in Queensland, allowing them to reset following the upset loss to Richmond last weekend.

Both teams could have won their respective games last week had they had better accuracy in front of goal. That is part and parcel of the game and difficult to predict on a week to week basis but we can assume that both teams will not be that bad this weekend.

In other areas of the game Gold Coast are outpacing the Swans, Inside 50’s is an important metric with the Suns getting 9 more forward entries per game than this week’s opponent. Their Ruck and Clearance numbers are also superior with injuries likely being why Sydney have struggled in that department so far this year.

Take Gold Coast to win 1-39, Sydney to go Under their team total and Matt Rowell to get to 30 in what is expected to be a tight contest with lots of stoppages.

  • Gold Coast allow the fewest Inside 50’s to Opponents at just 43 per game while averaging the most themselves at 63.8 per game.
  • 3 of the last 4 games between these teams have finished within 1-39 point margin as well as 66% of all games played this year.
  • Sydney have gone Under 79.5 pts in 2 straight games and 4 of 6 this season.
  • Matt Rowell had 29 disposals last weekend and is averaging 27.6 on the season.

Head to Head

The Swans have won 3 in a row against the Suns while also holding a 5-3 advantage in the head to head record dating back to the start of the 2019 season.

2 of the last 3 games have gone Over the Game Total but it is an even 4-4 across the last 8 matchups. The shortest winning margin was 14 points in 2022 with 5 of 8 being 40+ since 2019.

Gold Coast are 5-3 ATS.

The Suns suffered their first loss of the season last week and it was a surprising one to the Richmond Tigers 80-69. Gold Coast never led in the contest and at one point in the 3rd quarter were down by 43 points to their opposition.

Despite losing they did perform well in a number of statistics across the park. They almost doubled Richmonds number of Marks Inside 50 (13-7), they won the hitout and clearance battles, and their disposal efficiency was only .6% lower than their season average.

Where the game was lost was in their accuracy in front of the sticks. It was the worst of any game they have played so far this year, kicking 9 goals and 15 behinds.

Sydney suffered their second straight loss and 4th of the season last weekend against Port Adelaide at the SCG. They ended up losing the game 85-77 after being down by 34 points shortly after the start of the final term, but never held the lead throughout the entire contest.

The Swans had 7 more scoring shots than Port Adelaide but a 10.17 scoreboard is not winning you games, especially if the opponent is converting at a much higher rate. Hayden McLean, Nick Blakey and Braeden Campbell combined for 2 goals 9 behinds in a poor day in front of goal for the Bloods.

Despite losing the game the Swans were strong at getting Inside 50, having 7 more entries than their season average of 54.5 per game. They decided to use a lot more of the ball by hand with almost 40 more handballs than a regular game while still keeping the efficiency at a top level.
