The Dogs won both games against the Giants last season, however, it is predicted the GWS will be able to do enough to get on top of the Western Bulldogs, who are still struggling with injury to start the season.

The Bulldogs have not recorded a win outside of Marvel, while GWS won all three of their matches played at Manuka Oval in Canberra last season.

Matches between these two opponents are often tight and scrappy and expect nothing different with two strong midfields fighting it out for possession. The total of 166.5 is low but will not be low enough to avoid the under in the Nation’s capital.

With plenty of hard balls to be one expect the disposals to creep up close to the 30 mark for both Lachlan Ash and the hungry Marcus Bontempelli.

  • The Western Bulldogs have not won a match outside of Marvel Stadium this season.
  • The Western Bulldogs 3 losses have been by 21 points or less this season.
  • The previous 5 matches between the Giants and Bulldogs have had a game total under 166.50 points.
  • Lachie Ash is averaging 27.7 disposals per game at an efficiency of 84% for the Giants.

Head to Head

The Western Bulldogs got a double victory against the Giants last season in a regular wins over Western Sydney.

The Bulldogs have won 8 of the last 10 matches against the Giants dating back to the 2019 season.

The Giants fell to their second defeat of the season in treacherous conditions, going down to the Crows 52-34. The Giants missed Coleman Medalist Jesse Hogan, who was ruled out late, kicking 4 goals and 10 behinds in the pouring rain and wind at Adelaide Oval.

It was GWS’s second defeat in trialing conditions after the first loss to the Hawks being played in Tasmania with wild winds causing all sorts of problems for both sides.

Despite their losses GWS have been the best team defensively in the AFL this season, averaging just 64 points against. Their midfield has been controlling the game and their pressure on their opponents has been hard, ranked 1st in the AFL with an opposition disposal efficiency of just 70.5.

The return of Marcus Bontempelli to the lineup couldn’t have come at a better time for the battered and bruised Bulldogs team, who suffered another serious injury to Sam Darcy in their dominant 127-56 victory over St Kilda.

After missing the start of the year Bontempelli returned with a bang, recording 30 disposals and 8 clearances along with 2 goals of his own to lead the Dogs to a big win. It wasn’t just the veteran who did the dirty work though with 9 Bulldogs recording 23+ disposals with Ryley Sanders and Bailey Dale topping the group with 32 a piece.

The win broke a 2-game losing streak for the Western Bulldogs, who as mentioned, will now need to survive another injury after losing their main target Darcy for a long stretch.
