Gold Coast Suns vs GWS Giants AFL Round 8 Tips - Giant value in the head to head betting

In the highly anticipated AFL Round 8 matchup, the GWS Giants appear as the favorites against Gold Coast Suns due to their strong form and tactical advantage. Despite Gold Coast’s slightly better record, their recent struggles suggest vulnerabilities that the Giants, led by Toby Greene and Lachie Whitfield, are equipped to exploit. While the Giants boast a recent victory over North Melbourne, the Suns’ defensive issues and lackluster performance raise questions. Consequently, GWS stands poised to capitalize and potentially extend their winning streak in head-to-head encounters.

Gold Coast Suns vs GWS Giants, Round 8 2026 - Expert Prediction

GWS loom as massive value in the head-to-head market when they take on Gold Coast in AFL Round 8.

The Giants hold a clear edge in this matchup and have the game style to exploit the Suns’ current weaknesses, while they should head in full of confidence after rolling North Melbourne by seven points last weekend.

They come in with a 3-4 win-loss record, while Gold Coast are 4-3 but the Suns have battled in the last month with three losses and an unconvincing nine-point win against Essendon.

They have not applied anywhere near enough pressure in recent weeks and if the Suns again allow time and space to their opposition, the Giants will take full advantage.

Adam Kingsley’s side are at their best when the game opens up, and there were strong signs of that returning last weekend against the Kangaroos when showing improved connection going inside 50 with their transition game beginning to trend back in the right direction.

With Toby Greene in strong form against this opponent and Lachie Whitfield continuing to drive their ball movement, the Giants have the weapons to expose the Suns

  • GWS have taken out the past six head to head meetings, including the Round 23 encounter at People First Stadium last season by 35 points.
  • Gold Coast have lost three of their past four matches and their win was by just nine points against Essendon
  • Toby Greene has kicked 17 goals from his past six matches against the Suns
  • Lachie Whitfield is averaging 33 disposals in the past four rounds

Head to Head Stats

GWS have taken out the past six head to head meetings, including the Round 23 encounter at People First Stadium last season by 35 points. They are 16-5 overall against Gold Coast.

Notable player performances in the recent head to heads have been from;
  • Toby Greene (Giants)- 17 goals from his past six matches against the Suns
  • Noah Anderson (Suns)- has averaged 33.5 disposals in his past four against the Giants
  • Christian Petracca (Suns)- the former Demon has had 30+ disposals in three of his past four against GWS

Gold Coast Suns Form Analysis

Gold Coast have lost three of their past four with those coming against Melbourne, Sydney and Hawthorn, while they were unconvincing in their nine point win over a struggling Essendon side a fortnight ago.

Against Hawthorn, they struggled to absorb the Hawks pressure and uncontested possession chains, going down by 49 points in the 16.16 to 9.9 scoreline. Aside from a run of six straight goals that came either side of half-time, they were completely outplayed.

Noah Anderson had some influence in his return with 31 disposals, while Ben King, Ben Long, Bailey Humphrey and Lachie Weller were among a quartet that booted two goals. King remains on top of the goalkicking with 26 majors from seven matches and has 3+ on five occasions.

A concern for the Suns is their defensive structure, which still seems to be a work in progress. They have conceded over 100 points in their past four matches and is something that their coaching stuff need to address.

GWS Giants Form Analysis

The Giants sit at 3-4 and staved off North Melbourne by seven points in Round 7 in a bit of a shootout 15.15.105 to 14.14.98

Jake Stringer and Aaron Cadman both kicked three goals, while Lachie Whitfield (30 disposals) and Lachie Ash (29 found plenty of the footy). Toby Greene was arguably the best on ground with a 28 disposal and two goal haul, bouncing back from some inaccuracy in the previous week when kicking 0.5

A concern big positive for the Giants was that they were able to convert opportunities, as they had kicked 74 points or fewer in four of five matches prior to that.

The Giants have the personnel to challenge North Melbourne, including Clayton Oliver, who has had 30+ disposals in four of his past five matches, while Ash and Whitfield are both averaging 30 disposals in 2026.
