Carlton showed enough fight against the Dockers last week to give us confidence they can keep this one tight. The Saints are short favourites but the Blues cover at +13.5 is the play.

St Kilda are priced as if they are a certainty here after belting a hapless West Coast side by 101 pts last Sunday. The problem is that result tells us very little. The Eagles have been beaten convincingly in all four games since their round three boilover against Port Adelaide and kicking 143 on them means nothing.

The Blues are 1-6 and that record demands context. They have been competitive in almost every game and against Fremantle last week, a top-two side on the road, they stormed home to kick five of the last six goals and outscore the Dockers in the final quarter. At +13.5 we don't need them to win, just stay in the contest.

The model has St Kilda by 9 pts with the market sitting at 14.5, giving the Blues clear value on the cover. The Saints attack rating of -0.4 and defence of -0.1 are unimpressive numbers that back up the view the West Coast result was about the opponent, not a form spike. The Game Total sits at 182.5 and the Under fits perfectly. Carlton need to keep it close to stay alive and the Saints haven't been in high-scoring games when facing any genuine quality all season.

Take Carlton to cover with a +13.5 headstart and the Game Total to go Under 182.5. Jagga Smith 25+ Disposals and Mitch McGovern 2+ goals are the top player props.

The model has St Kilda by just 9 pts against a market line of 14.5, making Carlton the value cover play.
St Kilda's average scoring sits at 93.9 pts over the last 5 games against Carlton's defensive concession of 100.6, the Saints are no certainty to get away.
Carlton outscored Fremantle in the final quarter last week, kicking five of the last six goals to signal genuine fight against a top-two side.
St Kilda's attack and defence ratings both sit in negative territory on the season, the West Coast scoreline a product of an easy opponent rather than a form spike.

Head to Head Stats

Carlton and St Kilda have met 166 times all time with the Blues holding a significant historical edge. At Marvel Stadium the Saints lead 20-9. Carlton hold a 4-6 record in the last 10 meetings. The most recent clash was a Carlton win 77-62 in Round 9 2025, with the two prior games going 74-76 and 73-54 across 2024 and the first game of 2023.

Carlton Blues Form Analysis

Carlton went down to Fremantle by 14 pts at Optus Stadium on Anzac Day in a game that told the story of their season. They competed hard for three quarters but conceded a run of goals either side of the last change that put the game beyond them.

Patrick Cripps racked up 31 Disposals and 11 Clearances to lead from the front and Sam Walsh was outstanding with 32 Disposals and 8 Inside 50s. The final quarter saw Carlton kick five of the last six goals, refusing to lie down and closing the gap to 14 pts against a top-two side.

St Kilda Saints Form Analysis

St Kilda put 143 on West Coast to record their biggest winning margin in a decade. Jack Higgins booted five goals to take his tally to eight over the last two games, while Hugo Garcia was brilliant with 32 Disposals and two goals and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera picked up 34 Disposals.

The Saints are 3-4 for the year with wins coming against the Giants, Power and Eagles. Their losses have come against genuine quality opposition. That form line tells us they are a mid-table side that can beat those below them and struggle when tested. Carlton, scrapping for their lives, present a very different challenge.
