Fremantle vs Sydney Swans AFL 2026 Round 18 FAQ’s

Everything points toward Fremantle but the last three meetings between these sides have been decided by 11 pts, 3 pts and 1 pt. This is not a game you chase the line in. The Freo moneyline combined with Sydney covering the line is the multi that makes sense, it lets both outcomes contribute value and it has hit in 33% of games this season.

Fremantle are 14-2 and the best team in the competition. Their loss to GWS last week was a boilover driven by Jake Stringer's career-best seven goals and GWS winning the clearances 42-28, a combination that is unlikely to repeat at Optus Stadium. Their defence is allowing just 69.7 pts per game and is the best in the competition by a significant margin.

Sydney are no pushover. Their attack rating of +13.7 is the third best in the competition and Charlie Curnow has 44 goals for the season. They generate 61.5 Inside 50s per game and have won four of the last six head-to-head meetings. The Swans also came off a convincing win over the Bulldogs where Curnow booted six and the team's ball movement was back at its best.

Both teams have shown they can suffocate opposition scoring when the defensive intent is high. Fremantle will have their best defensive structures primed after being embarrassed by GWS and Sydney's ability to limit possession chains has been a feature of their best performances.

Take the Freo moneyline and Sydney to cover as a multi, Game Total Under 176.5, Luke Jackson goal and 15+ Disposals, and a small sprinkle on the draw.

The last three meetings between these sides were decided by 11, 3 and 1 pts respectively, the multi hedges both outcomes.
Both defences are elite wuth Fremantle allowing 69.7 pts per game and Sydney 79.9.
Fremantle's overall rating of +20.9 leads the competition against Sydney's +15.1, but Sydney generate 61.5 Inside 50s per game, the highest mark in this matchup, making the Swans covering a genuine possibility.
The draw is within range given the head-to-head history and justifies a small sprinkle at price.

Head to Head Stats

Sydney hold a 25-19 all-time lead and a 4-3 advantage at Optus Stadium. The Swans have won six of the last 10 meetings with the last five going 11, 3, 1, 48 and 29 pts. The most recent result was an 11 pt Sydney win in Round 17 2025. Three of the last five games at this ground have been decided by single figures.

Fremantle Dockers Form Analysis

Fremantle's 14-game winning streak ended in Canberra as GWS produced a boilover powered by Jake Stringer's seven goals and a dominant clearance performance. The Dockers were smashed 42-28 at the coalface and 62-47 for Inside 50s in their worst performance of the season. Caleb Serong was one of the few to perform to standard with 31 Disposals, six Clearances and six Tackles, while Karl Worner had 29 Disposals. Hayden Young left with a groin injury in the second half and is under an injury cloud for this week.

The Dockers will be stung by that result and Optus Stadium will be at capacity for this. They have been unbeatable at home this season.

Sydney Swans Form Analysis

Sydney bounced back from the Brisbane loss to dismantle the Bulldogs 90-55 at the SCG, with Charlie Curnow booting six goals to move to 2nd in the Coleman Medal race with 44 for the season. The Swans made six changes for the match and their depth shone, with Hayden McLean returning to kick three goals and Isaac Heeney controlling the midfield with 27 Disposals and eight Clearances. Sydney dominated territory with 61 Inside 50s and converted at a significantly better rate than the Bulldogs.

At 13-3, Sydney's minor premiership hopes are back in their own hands.
