Naomi Osaka, showing superb form with four straight quarter-final appearances and an impressive win record, is set to challenge Elena Rybakina in the WTA Toronto quarter-finals. While Rybakina started the season strongly, her recent matches have been unconvincing, making plenty of unforced errors and barely advancing. Osaka, a finalist last year in Canada, has reached the quarter-finals without dropping a set and is favored to advance to the semi-finals. The prediction leans in Osaka’s favor given her momentum and Rybakina's patchy form.

Elena Rybakina vs Naomi Osaka WTA Toronto Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Elena Rybakina has been below her best for the last couple of months and hasn't been convincing in making the Canadian Open quarter-finals, while Naomi Osaka has showcased great consistency in reaching four consecutive quarter-finals - this is a good opportunity for the four-time major champion to secure a big top two scalp and return to the semi-finals in Toronto.

I feel like Rybakina has been there for the taking all tournament in Toronto, it's just her opponents haven't had the necessary quality to finish her off. I mean, Rybakina struck a crazy 58 unforced errors in her opening match against Daria Kasatkina, but still somehow managed to come away with the win, while she was also dragged into a deciding set against Liudmila Samsonova in the R16.

Not exactly the cleanest performances so far from Rybakina, who has been down on form dating back to second and third round exits at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Osaka is someone who is more than capable of taking advantage of an out-of-form Rybakina, with the former World No. 1 coming back to some of her best tennis this season. Indeed, Osaka has won 25 of her 34 matches this season and only Aryna Sabalenka, Karolina Muchova and Alex Eala have beaten her since Roland Garros.

It's taking the very best or in-form players to defeat Osaka at the moment and I'm not sure this current version of Rybakina is a representation of that. Incredibly, this will be the first ever meeting between the players to, although they would have practiced a lot.

So all I can go on his current form and Osaka is clearly the superior player right here and now, also advancing to the quarter-finals without dropping a single set. She was a finalist in Canada last year and looks primed to re-enter the business stage of the tournament.
  • Osaka has won 16 of her last 20 matches
  • Fourteen of those 16 victories for Osaka have come in straight sets
  • Osaka has a 2-1 record in quarter-finals this season
  • Rybakina has lost her last two quarter-final matches
  • Rybakina has a 3-3 record in her last six matches vs top 15 players

Rybakina vs Osaka Head To Head

This will be the first ever meeting between the two players.

Elena Rybakina Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 37-11
  • WTA Canada Record: 11-4
  • Current Ranking: No. 2
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (March 2026)

Rybakina made a flying start to the season, capturing her second Grand Slam crown at the Australian Open before finishing runner-up at Indian Wells and reaching the semi-finals in Miami.

She also carried that momentum onto clay, lifting the Stuttgart title and advancing to the quarter-finals in Rome to establish herself as one of the tour's standout performers through the opening months of the year.

Since then, however, her form has dipped. Rybakina suffered a surprise second-round exit at Roland Garros against Yuliia Starodubtseva before another disappointing result at Wimbledon, where she was beaten in the third round by Elise Mertens.

Returning to hardcourt in Toronto, Rybakina hasn't really got back to her best tennis. She scraped past Daria Kasatkina 6-3 5-7 6-4 in her opener, striking 58 unforced errors, before taking care of Ann Li 6-2 7-5. Rybakina then needed three sets again to edge past Liudmila Samsonova 6-4 4-6 6-4 to reach her third Canadian Open quarter-final.

Naomi Osaka Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 25-9
  • WTA Canada Record: 14-6
  • Current Ranking: No. 13
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2019)

It's been a very solid year for Osaka and she continues to edge closer to a top 10 return.

Osaka has really picked things up over the last couple of months after reaching the fourth round of Roland Garros.

Indeed, the four-time major champion has made at least the quarter-finals in her last four tournaments, including a runner-up showing in Bad Homburg, semi-final run in Washington and advancing to the last eight at Wimbledon, where she took out World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Osaka made the Canadian Open final in Montreal last year and is looking to go one step further this season in Toronto. The 28-year-old has returned to the quarter-finals without dropping a set in wins over Panna Udvardy (6-2 6-4), Elise Mertens (6-1 6-2) and Leylah Fernandez (6-4 6-4).

Osaka was on fire in her win over home hope Fernandez in the last eight, blasting 29 winners to just nine unforced errors and winning 29/38 points behind her first serve.
