Tsitsipas endured a nightmare season in 2025, slipping outside the world's top 30 and suffering countless early exits, winning just two matches at the four slams. However, there's early signs that the Greek might be turning a corner to begin 2026, with Tsitsipas going 3-0 in his United Cup singles matches last week. Tsitsipas has traditionally played some of his best tennis in Australia throughout his career and this week provides him with an excellent opportunity to continue to rebuild his form and confidence ahead of the first major. Meanwhile, Vukic also had a tough 2025 campaign and this season didn't get off to a good start as he was demolished by Frances Tiafoe in Brisbane.

All up, this is a smooth opener for Tsitsipas - he dropped just three games to Vukic in their only previous meeting and he's got the prime time, centre court matchup, so motivation is high. It was a hugely disappointing season for Tsitsipas in 2025 - he had his fair share of troubles off the court, but he was also dealing with a back injury, which he declared was so severe that he was even contemplating retiring from tennis altogether.

However, Tsitsipas soldiered on and after a full offseason, the Greek says his back is much better and he's ready to begin clawing his way back up the rankings.

Tsitsipas couldn't have started the year in better fashion, defeating Shintaro Mochizuki, Billy Harris and Taylor Fritz at the United Cup last week.

A former Australian Open runner-up and further three-time semi-finalist at Melbourne Park, Tsitsipas has produced his best tennis down under and will be competing in Adelaide for the first time this tournament.

Vukic actually started last year in very encouraging fashion, toppling Seb Korda on his way to the third round of the Australian Open, where he was edged out in a fifth-set tiebreaker by Jack Draper.

However, Vukic would go on to lose 12 of his next 13 matches all the way up to Wimbledon, with his ranking taking a huge hit as a result.

The Aussie did manage to salvage his year somewhat with a third round showing at the Canada Masters and quarter-final run at the ATP 500 event in Tokyo, keeping him inside the top 100.

Vukic didn't get his 2026 off to the start he would have wanted, suffering a one-sided 6-2 6-2 defeat to Frances Tiafoe in the opening round of Brisbane last week, but he did manage to come through qualifying in Adelaide over the weekend, beating Jacob Fearnley and Luca Nardi in three sets.

The 29-year-old has only played the Adelaide main draw once more, making the quarter-finals in 2022.
