Nick Kyrgios aims for the BOSS Open quarter-finals as he faces Sho Shimabukuro in Stuttgart. Kyrgios, after a dominant display against Corentin Moutet, is the clear favorite with his powerful serve being a key weapon. Shimabukuro, a late bloomer, impressed in early rounds and seeks to extend his career-best run. This is their first career meeting. Expect a tight match, possibly featuring at least one tiebreak and over 23.5 games, especially if Kyrgios maintains his strong serving form.

Nick Kyrgios vs Sho Shimabukuro Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Nick Kyrgios targets the BOSS Open quarter-finals when he comes up against qualifier Sho Shimabukuro in Stuttgart on Thursday.

Competing in just his 11th tournament since making the Wimbledon final in 2022, Kyrgios produced an outstanding performance to defeat top 40 player Corentin Moutet in straight sets in his Stuttgart opener earlier in the week.

It was a brilliant serving display from the Aussie - Kyrgios nailed an astonishing 84 per cent of first serves and didn't face a single break point. He didn't even require a tiebreak, breaking Moutet once in each set to secure an impressive victory.

Meanwhile, Shimabukuro is playing just his second tour-level grass tournament after a R1 exit at Wimbledon 2023. The Japanese came through qualifying before dropping just six games against Quentin Halys in the first round of the main draw.

But this match is on Kyrgios' racquet - I think I'm still going to need to see more before I can declare he's serious about this comeback. He's the bookies' favourite, but again, I'm steering clear of outright winners and lines. Will back a tiebreak and the Overs - if Kyrgios serves like he did against Moutet, he's going to be near-impossible to break.
  • Kyrgios has a 37-19 tour-level record on grass
  • Kyrgios has played 1+ tiebreak in four of his last six Stuttgart matches
  • Kyrgios has played 1+ tiebreak in seven of his last 10 grass matches dating back to 2022
  • Shimabukuro has played 1+ tiebreak in three of his last six grass matches
  • Shimabukuro has seen Over 23.5 games in two of his last three tour-level matches

Kyrgios vs Shimabukuro Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Nick Kyrgios Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 1-1
  • ATP Stuttgart Record: 6-4
  • ATP Ranking: -
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 13 (2016)

Kyrgios has undergone four knee surgeries and a wrist reconstruction since making the Wimbledon final in 2022, where he narrowly fell to Novak Djokovic.

Coming into this tournament, Kyrgios had only played one singles event in 2026, resulting in an opening round straight sets defeat to Aleksandar Kovacevic in Brisbane in January.

However, the Aussie showcased some throwback form, especially on serve, toppling Corentin Moutet 6-3 6-4 in a match that lasted less than an hour.

“I’m pleased with the way I played today, I’m pleased with the way I’m feeling in my body, I’ve been putting in a lot of work so I’m just really happy to be back," Kyrgios said post-match.

Kyrgios will now be aiming for a third Stuttgart quarter-final after two previous semi-final appearances.

Sho Shimabukuro Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 2-4
  • ATP Stuttgart Record: 1-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 104
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 103 (May 2026)

Shimabukuro can be classified as a late bloomer, with the 28-year-old set to make his top 100 debut with a few more decent results.

The Japanese has only won seven tour-level matches in his career, but two have come in the opening six months of 2026 and he has a good chance to keep his run going in Stuttgart here.

After making the second round of Acapulco, Shimabukuro is back into this stage in Stuttgart after qualifying for the main draw. It was an impressive opening round win, with Shimabukuro brushing aside Quentin Halys 6-2 6-4.

Shimabukuro warmed up for this tournament by playing the Birmingham Challenger last week, where he made the quarter-finals.
