Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Justin Engel Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Teenage sensation Justin Engel will be targeting another big upset when he comes up against fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the BOSS Open quarter-finals in Stuttgart on Friday.

Engel became the second-youngest player since 1990 to win a tour-level match across the three different surfaces (hard, clay & grass) with his opening round victory in Stuttgart over James Duckworth, while he's now also the youngest tour-level quarter-finalist on grass since Boris Becker won Wimbledon all the way back in 1985 after knocking off Alex Michelsen in straight sets in R2, recording his maiden top 50 victory in the process.

Up next for Engel is former top 10 player Auger-Alliassime and I don't think he's without his chances. The Canadian has only won one match on grass since 2022 and that came against the big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the previous round, which is always a lottery matchup. With the home crowd firmly in his corner, I'm backing Engel to make this match competitive and take at least one set.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Form

It's been a strange season for Auger-Aliassime to date - he comes into this clash with a solid 21-12 record and two ATP titles in 2025, but he's fallen two spots to No. 29 in the world, which is also a far cry from his career-high of No. 6.

Auger-Aliassime enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, winning titles in Adelaide and Montpellier, along with reaching the semi-finals in Doha and finishing runner-up in Dubai.

However,  Auger-Aliassime would proceed to lose seven of his next eight matches before reaching the semi-finals in Hamburg just before Roland Garros, where he lost in five sets in the opening round to Matteo Arnaldi.

Incredibly, the Canadian didn't own a tour-level win on grass since 2022 before toppling Mpetshi Perricard 6-4 6-4 in his Stuttgart opener.

Justin Engel Form

Engel comes into this encounter with a 3-2 record at tour-level this season, really stepping it up this week in front of his home crowd in Stuttgart.

The 17-year-old has been a prodigy to watch for a couple of years now, but he's struggled for the most part this year, not even making the quarter-finals of a Challenger tournament.

However, the talent is clear for all to see and Engel has exploded in Stuttgart with a historic run to the quarter-finals, first coming back from multiple deficits to beat Duckworth in three sets before a 6-4 6-4 upset of Michlesen to reach his first ATP quarter-final.

Engel, who is coached by former German top 20 player Philipp Kohlschreiber, is contesting his first ever professional tournament on grass this week.

Verdict

Auger-Aliassime has struggled on grass over the last few years and hadn't won a match on the surface since 2022 before his Stuttgart opener.

Engel is a genuine future star and has nothing to lose here. The 17-year-old is fearless and I can see him snatching a set against an opponent down on confidence.
