Denis Shapovalov and Joao Fonseca are set to compete in the Swiss Indoors quarter-finals in Basel. Shapovalov's consistent performance indoors makes him a favorite for this encounter, while Fonseca looks for a breakthrough in his ATP form. Tune in to watch the live excitement.

Denis Shapovalov vs Joao Fonseca Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's set to be a cracking contest full of blistering shotmaking as Denis Shapovalov and Joao Fonseca square off in the Swiss Indoors quarter-finals in Basel on Friday.

Shapovalov is a beast indoors and has a 7-1 record in these conditions this season, while Fonseca is competing in his first ATP quarter-final since February, when he went all the way to capture his maiden tour-level title in Buenos Aires. Both players haven't been at their best lately, but this represents a fantastic opportunity to make the final four at an ATP 500 tournament.

It should be an entertaining match to watch, but I like Shapovalov as the slight underdog here. The Canadian is a perfect 4-0 in quarter-finals this season. When he finds his form and best tennis, he is very hard to stop. Fonseca hasn't been that impressive over the last few months and he hasn't had to play much tennis in order to reach the Basel quarter-finals, chopping down the big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard before receiving a walkover from Jakub Mensik. Backing the proven indoors player in Shapovalov here.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Denis Shapovalov Form

It's been another inconsistent season for Shapovalov - he comes into this encounter with a 26-20 record, but at a solid ranking of No. 23 after some isolated standout results.

Importantly for this encounter, two of those noteworthy performances came at indoor tournaments, with Shapovalov securing the ATP 500 title in Dallas before a nice semi-final run in Stockholm last week.

Three of Shapovalov's four career titles have come indoors, where his lefty swinging serve and quick-fire groundstrokes are extremely effective.

The Canadian has been forced to dig deep so far in Basel, overcoming Marcos Giron in three sets in the opening round before recovering from a 3-5 first set deficit to beat Valentin Royer to make the quarter-finals.

Joao Fonseca Form

Fonseca heads into this showdown with a 22-15 record on the season, winning his maiden ATP title and cracking the top 50 for the first time.

It's been a big year of firsts for Fonseca, who started the year playing Challengers before notching up his first top 10 win over Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open.

The 19-year-old collected his first ATP title in Buenos Aires and has made third rounds at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, cementing himself as a star of the future.

Fonseca's form has dropped off over the last couple of months - in fact, he still hasn't won back-to-back completed matches in ATP events since March. The Brazilian defeated defending Basel champion Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard to get off the mark this week before Jakub Mensik withdrew ahead of their second round.

Verdict

Can't really justify Fonseca as favourite when he hasn't won consecutive completed matches in ATP events since March - especially against an indoors beast like Shapovalov.

I like the Canadian to get the job done in Basel.
