Carlos Alcaraz is set to face fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar in a second-round match at Queen's Club. Alcaraz, on a 14-match winning streak and recent champion of Rome and Roland Garros, is in prime form with impressive wins over top-ranked players like Jannik Sinner. In contrast, Munar has limited success on grass with just four professional wins on the surface. Alcaraz brings a 14-match winning streak into this encounter following his title triumphs in Rome and Roland Garros, conquering World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in both finals. Having won 21 of his last 22 matches on grass, Alcaraz will be hoping to keep his momentum rolling into the last eight at Queen's Club, where he won the title in 2023.
The Spaniard couldn't have asked for a better draw after taking care of lucky loser Adam Walton in his opening round, with Munar only winning four professional grass court matches in his career. Munar advanced into the second round due to Jordan Thompson's retirement and despite a great season to date, is expected to he thoroughly outclassed on his least-preferred surface.
Head To Head
Alcaraz leads 2-1. Munar won their first ever meeting in Marbella in 2021, but Alcaraz has prevailed in their last two encounters. This will be their first clash since 2022 and first off clay.
Carlos Alcaraz Form
Alcaraz comes into this showdown with a 38-5 record on the season, winning more matches than anyone on tour and collecting the most titles with four.
Three of those titles came during another dominant clay swing, with Alcaraz picking up silverware at Monte Carlo, Rome and Roland Garros.
Making those achievements even more notable was the fact he defeated Sinner in the Rome and French Open title matches, extending his winning streak over the World No. 1 to five straight matches.
Having enjoyed successful transitions to grass in previous seasons, Alcaraz will be hoping for another prolific swing on the lawns.
The Spaniard is gunning for a second Queen's Club title this week and got his campaign up and running with a 6-4 7-6 victory over Aussie lucky loser Adam Walton, saving two set points in the second set.
Jaume Munar Form
Munar heads into this contest with a solid 15-12 record on the season, only seven spots off his career-high ranking of No. 52, which he achieved back in 2019.
Indeed, it's been an impressive season for Munar, who has improved his record against the game's top players considerably, registering 5-4 record vs top 20 opponents.
The Spaniard has made semi-finals in Hong Kong and Dallas, along with a R16 finish in Rome - however, Munar would have been extremely disappointed in his failure to make a Grand Slam third round for the first time at Roland Garros, going down to an injured Arthur Fils in five sets.
As mentioned, Munar has struggled on grass throughout his career, winning just four of his 17 matches on the surface and he was fortunate to benefit from Jordan Thompson's retirement in his Queen's opening round.
