Shelton has endured a rough month on tour, struck down by illness shortly before Indian Wells and ultimately able to win just one match during the Sunshine Double, suffering a shock defeat to Alexander Shevchenko in Miami. Zhang meanwhile continues to work his way back from injury and is seemingly gradually getting back to his best level - however, a poor 3-16 record against top 10 opponents threatens to derail his Houston bid here.

However, with Shelton's rustiness and dip in form, I don't want to touch any H2H or player spread. Instead, I'm turning my attention to Over 22.5 games and 1+ tiebreak. Shelton can usually take a while to get going and after a first round bye, this will be his first match in Houston since he won the title in 2024. As you'll see in the stats below, Shelton often finds himself playing a close match and tiebreak in these sorts of spots, so these are the best bets for Wednesday night in Houston.

It was a strong start to the season for Shelton, who has established himself as a top 10 mainstay over the last 12 months.

The American made another Australian Open quarter-final, where it took Jannik Sinner to stop him, before going on to win the ATP 500 title in Dallas, beating Taylor Fritz in the final.

It appeared as if Shelton was set for a big Sunshine Double, but he was struck down by illness and proceeded to win just one match, going out to Reilly Opelka in Indian Wells and Alexander Shevchenko in Miami.

Shelton is making his second appearance in Houston and he's yet to taste defeat at the tournament after winning the 2024 edition, taking out Frances Tiafoe in the final.

It's been a rough last 12 months or so for Zhang, who was sidelined long-term with injury just as it appeared as if he was about to crack the top 30.

It's been a slow comeback for Zhang and he's yet to win back-to-back tour-level matches in 2026 - although he did pick up a title at the Brisbane Challenger in February.

Zhang lost easily 6-3 6-2 to Adrian Mannarino in his Miami opener, but he's bounced back with a solid opening win in Houston.

The Chinese player is underrated on clay and a former Madrid and Rome Masters quarter-finalist - and he proved his worth on the dirt again with a strong 6-1 6-1 victory over qualifier Jack Pinnington Jones in his Houston first round.
