Shelton is coming off a solid clay swing, where he made the final of the ATP 500 event in Munich and the fourth round of Roland Garros, where he took a set off eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. Now, Shelton looks at making an impact on the lawns, where his devastating lefty serve has the potential to do immense damage.

Coming up against another big server, I think there's a good chance of tiebreaks on the Stuttgart grass. Shelton remains suspect on return and Herbert is confident having qualified for the main draw and making it through the opening round. In his first match on grass for the season, I can see Shelton simply going through the motions to begin the match, so backing the American in a first set tiebreak offers value, along with Over 23.5 total games.

Shelton comes into this encounter with a 17-11 record on the season and at a career-high ranking of No. 12 in the world.

It's safe to say Shelton saves his best tennis for the big events, which is definitely a good thing, but at the same time, not taking advantage of softer draws in the smaller events is probably the reason he hasn't debuted in the top 10 yet.

The American kicked off the year in style by making the Australian Open semi-finals and the quarter-finals of Indian Wells, while he was also a runner-up to Alexander Zverev in Munich and made the fourth round of Roland Garros, going down in four sets to eventual champion Alcaraz.

Shelton will be looking to find some form on the grass over the next month or so, with the 22-year-old currently holding a negative 6-7 record on the surface at tour-level.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert Form

It's been a difficult last couple of years for Herbert and he remains outside the top 100 at No. 132 after registering a 4-3 record at tour-level coming into this contest.

Herbert has played predominantly on the Challenger circuit over the last few seasons, but is enjoying a nice little run at ATP Stuttgart this week.

After a second round showing at Roland Garros (lost to Joao Fonseca), Herbert qualified for the main draw in Stuttgart and benefitted from Damir Dzumhur retiring in the opening round.

The 34-year-old's best winning percentage at tour-level is on grass, where he's gone 15-16 throughout his career, including making the third round of Wimbledon back in 2016.
