I'm keen to fade Zverev straight out of the gates in Acapulco - the German made the questionable decision to play the Golden Swing on clay (and wasn't successful) and now has to make the quick transition back to hardcourt, something he's not done much in his career. Zverev failed to make it past the quarter-finals at both Buenos Aires and Rio, losing in three sets on each occasion. Meanwhile, Arnaldi has fond memories of his only previous visit to Acapulco, where he took a top 10 scalp over Taylor Fritz in the opening round - perhaps lightning could strike twice for the Italian...
Head To Head
This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
Alexander Zverev Form
Zverev had a promising start to the season, but it still ended in heartbreak as he lost a third Grand Slam final, this time going down against Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open.
The German proceeded to fill his pockets and play the Golden Swing in South America on clay throughout February - and it's a move that failed to pay dividends (at least on the court).
Indeed, Zverev was bundled out in just his second match at Buenos Aires by Francisco Cerundolo, while he suffered another defeat to an Argentine in Rio last week, going down in three against Francisco Comesana.
Now, Zverev must switch back to hardcourt in Acapulco, where he suffered an opening round defeat to Daniel Altmaier last year.
Matteo Arnaldi Form
Currently ranked No. 33 in the world and three spots off his career-high, Arnaldi will be hoping to make that next push and move towards the top 20 this season.
It's been a solid but unspectacular start to 2025 for Arnaldi - he's compiled a 5-4 record, losing in the second round of Brisbane and first round of the Australian Open before making back-to-back quarter-finals in Dallas and Delray Beach.
Arnaldi had two solid wins over rising teenager star Learner Tien and Brandon Nakashima last week in Delray Beach before going down to eventual runner-up Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
As mentioned, the Italian played brilliant tennis in his only previous appearance in Acapulco last year, stunning Taylor Fritz in the first round before going down in a tight three-setter against Ben Shelton.

Verdict
Can't back Zverev as the heavy favourite after watching him in his last two tournaments - the German is well below his best, perhaps suffering from an Australian Open final hangover, while he now has to make the transition back to hardcourt from clay.
Zverev lost in R1 of Acapulco last year and it wouldn't be the biggest shock if it happened again. Arnaldi is a very solid player and won't miss much, while he proved he can take down top 10 players in Acapulco last year. I'll back Arnaldi at the line and in three sets with small stakes here.
