Alexander Zverev vs Corentin Moutet Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Top seed Alexander Zverev begins his pursuit of a maiden grass title when he comes up against the unorthodox Corentin Moutet in the second round of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart on Thursday.

Zverev has a 39-20 career record on grass, which is his lowest winning percentage of the three surfaces. The German will be hoping to improve that record over the coming month and surpass his Wimbledon effort from last year, which saw him lose in the R16 in five sets against Taylor Fritz. Zverev is coming off yet another disappointing Grand Slam result after going down to Novak Djokovic in the Roland Garros quarter-finals - perhaps another return home will spark a deep run, just like in Munich earlier this season?

First up for Zverev is a favourable matchup. Moutet is a tricky customer, but he has a nightmare 1-14 record vs top 10 players. This is because the game's elite are able to navigate Moutet's junkballing game and figure him out fairly quickly. There will be some fun points and entertaining flair on show from Moutet's side of the court, but unless Zverev dishes out a shocking performance (which to be fair has happened a lot this season), he should be covering here.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Alexander Zverev Form

Zverev comes into this clash with a 29-11 record on the season, with his lone title coming at the ATP 500 event on clay in Munich.

It's been yet another heartbreaking year at the slams for Zverev - he lost his third major final at the Australian Open to Jannik Sinner, while he slumped to 5-23 vs top 10 players at Grand Slams when he went down to Djokovic in four sets at Roland Garros last month.

Zverev also had a chance to rise to World No. 1 during the first quarter of the season with Sinner's suspension, but he crumbled under the pressure and didn't even come close.

Perhaps desperate for some more match wins and confidence heading into the grass swing, Zverev is competing in Stuttgart for the first time since 2019, where he lost in the opening round to World No. 170 Dustin Brown.

Corentin Moutet Form

Moutet brings an even 10-10 record at tour-level into this showdown, dropping 18 places in the rankings this season to No. 91 (career-high No. 51 back in 2022).

The Frenchman has only won seven tour-level matches on grass throughout his career, but one of them was a solid scalp over Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon all the way back in 2019.

Moutet had a solid start to the season by making the third round of the Australian Open, but he failed to win back-to-back matches at tour-level over the next few months.

That changed at the Rome Masters, when Moutet advanced to the R16, claiming his first ever top 10 victory by beating Holger Rune in a deciding set tiebreak in the longest three-set match of the season.

The 26-year-old has made just the one previous appearance in Stuttgart, falling in the opening round in 2023 against Aslan Karatsev. Moutet got his debut win at the BOSS Open earlier in the week with a three-set dispatch of veteran Fabio Fognini.

Verdict

Moutet can be tricky for lower-ranked players, but he's lost 14 of his 15 matches against top 10 players.

Even if Zverev is down on confidence and form, he should have enough firepower to subdue the Frenchman and cover a -4.5 line.
