It hasn't been the best year for De Minaur so far and he'll be hoping to draw on the fond memories he has in Den Bosch, where he lifted the title in 2024. The Aussie had a disappointing clay swing, culminating in a third round defeat in Roland Garros to Jakub Mensik and will be hoping to recapture his best tennis on the lawns over the next month.

Meanwhile, Damm is gradually making his way towards the top 100, coming into this clash at No. 112 in the world. Damm's father actually finished runner-up to another Aussie in Pat Rafter in Den Bosch back in 1998, so perhaps revenge of sorts could be in order almost 30 years later...

I think this is a tough opening assignment for de Minaur. Damm's swinging lefty serve is extremely effective on grass, despite this only being the American's second tour-level match on the surface. He can do some damage here, but de Minaur still has one of the best return games in the world and is far more experience on this surface.

I'm backing Damm to keep one set close and perhaps even force a tiebreak, but de Minaur should be able to come out on top.

De Minaur started the year strongly with a quarter-final run at the Australian Open before winning his 11th career title at the 500 event in Rotterdam.

However, since early February, it's been an average season - indeed, de Minaur has registered a 9-9 record in that period, suffering many uncharacteristic losses to lower-ranked players.

The Aussie looked a bit better towards the end of the clay swing, reaching the Hamburg semi-finals and the third round at Roland Garros, but he was battered by Jakub Mensik and only ended up winning one match at the tournament over a qualifier in the first round.

De Minaur won the Den Bosch title in his last appearance at the tournament in 2024, beating Sebastian Korda in the final.

It's been a solid season for Damm, with the American registering a 6-6 record at tour-level coming into this encounter.

If Damm maintains this current level, then he should be breaking into the top 100 sooner rather than later - in fact, two more wins in Den Bosch this week should do the job.

Damm's best result on the main tour was a nice run to the semi-finals indoors at Montpellier in February, while he also made the second round of Masters 1000 events in Miami and Madrid.

The 22-year-old qualified for his first ATP grass main draw in Den Bosch, beating Max Houkes and Juan Pablo Ficovich. Damm then advanced into the second round with an impressive 6-4 6-4 dispatch of Jaume Munar.
