After finishing runner-up in Rotterdam 12 months ago, de Minaur is looking good for another deep run in the Dutch city - and we're backing the Aussie to come through this clash in relatively routine fashion. We're backing de Minaur to cover a 5.5 games handicap, which he did in his opening round against David Goffin. De Minaur also won 20 more points than Jakub Mensik in the second round and this should result in a similar outcome, with Altmaier entering the draw as a lucky loser and receiving favourable opponents in the main draw.

This will be the first ever tour-level meeting between the pair, with de Minaur winning their only previous clash all the way back at Junior Wimbledon in 2016 in straight sets.

It's been an excellent start to the season for de Minaur, who is looking to keep rising up the rankings and put himself in positions to win big tournaments - and that's exactly what he's done this week in Rotterdam.

De Minaur won both of his United Cup matches for his country to launch the season before reaching his first Australian Open quarter-final, where he was stopped by eventual champion and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

The Aussie defeated Mikael Ymer in Davis Cup before turning his attention to Rotterdam, where he has cruised past David Goffin and Jakub Mensik in straight sets, producing a fantastic performance in the latter to upstage the talented teenager 6-4 6-4.

De Minaur has now advanced into the Rotterdam quarter-finals for the fourth consecutive year and he will be hoping to emulate his run from last year, where he defeated Andrey Rublev at this stage before going down in the final to Sinner.

Altmaier is a bit of an enigma on tour - he really should be ranked higher, but the German is inconsistent and prone to lengthy losing streaks.

That's why he's ranked No. 94 in the world, but Altmaier is certainly making the most of his good fortune in Rotterdam, where he lost in the final round of qualifying to Constant Lestienne before gaining entry into the main draw as a lucky loser.

Altmaier drew Aleksandar Kovacevic in the opening round, with the American fatigued from reaching the final in Montpellier last week, while his second round opponent Arthur Fils admitted to feeling less than 100 per cent due to his Davis Cup exploits the previous weekend.

Earlier this year, Altmaier lost in the opening round of Auckland, the second round of the AO and the first round of Montpellier.
