Wests Tigers vs Parramatta Eels, NRL Round 7 - Expert Prediction

Mitch Moses is back and the NSW Origin halfback can lead the Eels to just their second win of the season as underdogs on Easter Monday against a Tigers side that have endured a turbulent week off the field.

Parramatta are a completely different team with Moses in their lineup - they've lost 24 of their last 31 matches without their star halfback, but have an overall winning rate of 58 per cent when he's steering the side around.

The damage could already have been done this season, with the Eels anchored to the bottom of the ladder heading into Round 7, but this represents a fantastic opportunity to secure just their second win of the year and perhaps kick-start their campaign.

The Lachlan Galvin saga has the potential to completely derail the Tigers' promising start to the season, with the boom No. 7 dropped to reserve grade after rejecting a new deal and declaring Benji Marshall wasn't the coach to take his game to the next level, announcing that he would be leaving the joint-venture outfit when his contract expires at the end of 2026.

Whether Galvin sees out that contract remains to be seen, but with the Tigers' leadership group reportedly wanting him gone, it's tough to see the teenager slotting back into the team this season.

With all this in mind, the Eels can produce an ambush at CommBank Stadium and avenge their defeat to the Tigers from back in Round 2. Moses can also assist Bailey Simonsson for a try, with Parra's starting left winger scoring a try in eight of their last nine outings at CommBank.

  • Over 39.5 total points has landed in 14 of the last 15 meetings
  • Eels have a 58% winning rate with Mitch Moses in the team
  • Tigers forced into halves reshuffle with controversial Galvin axing
  • Parramatta's starting left winger has scored a try in eight of their last nine games at CommBank (Bailey Simonsson)

Head To Head

The Tigers pummelled the Eels 32-6 back in Round 2, with Parra only getting on the scoreboard with a last-minute try. The Eels were runaway 60-24 winners in their previous clash in 2024.

It's been an encouraging start to the season for the Tigers, who have won half of their six games and enter Round 7 in seventh spot on the ladder.

Wooden spoons should be a thing of the past at Tiger-land, but Lachlan Galvin's axing has the potential to derail their top eight aspirations.

After back-to-back defeats against the Warriors and Broncos, the Tigers produced a defensive masterclass last week to beat the Knights 20-4, only allowing their opposition a try in the final seconds.

Wests Tigers Team News

Obviously the biggest news of the week is Galvin being dropped to the reserves, with Adam Doueihi partnering Jarome Luai in the halves and Brent Naden returning from a knee injury in the centres.

Luke Laulilii also comes onto the wing in place of Jeral Skelton, who has a hamstring injury.

It's obviously been a nightmare start to the season for the Eels, with the team already conceding 50+ points twice and losing five of their six games to be anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

Parramatta secured their first win of the season with a gritty comeback over the Dragons, but slipped back into old habits in Darwin last week, copping a 50-12 battering at the hands of Canberra.

However, the return of Moses has the potential to turn their season around, but the team around him need considerable improvement.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Huge inclusion with Moses back at halfback, which could also free up Dylan Brown to play his more natural running game.

Jason Ryles has swung the axe on some under-performing forwards, with Joe Ofahengaue, Ryan Matterson, Charlie Guymer and Shaun Lane all out, along with Dean Hawkins making way for Moses.

Verdict

The Eels can cover a +8.5 line with the game seeing Over 39.5 total points, while Parra are also backed for the upset with Moses returning to kick-start their attack.

Bailey Simonsson can cross for a try, with Parramatta's starting left winger having a prolific try-scoring record at CommBank lately.
