Sydney Roosters vs Penrith Panthers, NRL Round 7 2025 - Expert Prediction
I've been burned before, but it's time for the Panthers to step up and return to their defensive best, keeping the Roosters' suspect attack to minimal points as they snap a five-game losing streak at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

Unrecognisable in 16th spot on the ladder, it's been a shocking start to the season for Penrith, who are in the midst of their worst run of form since 2019.
A dip in performance was always going to happen at some point with the amount of player turnover at the foot of the mountains, but I don't think anybody expected the Panthers to be equal-last on the ladder heading into Round 7.
However, it's time for the likes of Nathan Cleary, Dylan Edwards, Isaah Yeo, Mitch Kenny and Liam Martin to lead their side out of this slump - and what better way to do it than against a Roosters side that was the start of their downward spiral and five-match losing streak back in Round 2.
The Roosters have registered two mighty upsets this season over the Panthers and Broncos, but for the most part, their attack has been dismal and they've been restricted to 14 points or less in four of their six matches for the season. Penrith should be able to take advantage and cover a small -2.5 line in the process, while I'm expecting a big game from Dylan Edwards against his NSW Origin rival James Tedesco, with the Panthers fullback scoring a try in four of his last five appearances against the Chooks.
- Roosters haven't beaten Panthers twice in a season since 2015
- Roosters have lost four of their six games this season
- Roosters have been held to 14 points or less in four of six games this season
- Panthers have won two from two at the new Allianz Stadium
- Dylan Edwards has scored a try in four of his last five games vs Roosters
Head To Head
As mentioned, the Roosters recorded one of the biggest upsets in NRL history when they stunned the Panthers 38-32 back in Round 2 as massive $12.50 outsiders. Penrith had won the previous nine meetings.

It's been a wild season for the Roosters - they've been poor for the most part, but also come away with two of the biggest upsets of the year so far.
After starting the season with a crushing 50-14 loss to the Broncos, the Roosters delivered an immediate response by edging out a fast-finishing Penrith outfit 38-32 as huge underdogs.
However, Trent Robinson's side couldn't build on that win, scoring just 32 points across three defeats against the Warriors, Titans and Rabbitohs.
But again, just when we were beginning to put a line through them this season, the Roosters bounced back with a brilliant 26-16 win on the road over Brisbane last week.

It's still barely believable to see the Panthers languishing in 16th position on the ladder, sitting only above the embattled Eels on points differential.
Penrith actually launched the season in solid fashion, taking care of the Sharks in Vegas as they began their pursuit of a fifth straight premiership.
Instead, they've gone on a five-match losing streak - their longest since 2019. One of the best defences the NRL has been shattered, with the Panthers leaking 28+ points in four of those five defeats - including a last-start 30-12 loss to the Dolphins.

Verdict
It's time for the Panthers to bounce back and I'm tipping them to keep the Roosters Under 21.5 team points and cover a small -2.5 line in victory.
Look for Dylan Edwards to have another big game against opposite number James Tedesco.
