Is James Fisher-Harris One Of The Greatest NRL Signings?
James Fisher-Harris is having a transformative impact on the New Zealand Warriors, elevating standards both on and off the field. His leadership and professionalism have inspired a resilient Warriors side that continues to perform despite injuries and changes in personnel. If the Warriors secure their first NRL premiership with Fisher-Harris at the helm, his signing could go down as one of the most influential in league history. At the heart of the Warriors' resurgence, Fisher-Harris’s influence extends far beyond his statistics or on-field contributions.
- James Fisher-Harris has transformed the Warriors' culture and on-field standards.
- His leadership & resilience have driven the club closer to their first NRL premiership.
- Winning the title could place his signing among the NRL's greatest.

Is James Fisher-Harris Becoming One Of The Greatest Signings In NRL History?
James Fisher-Harris hasn't simply made the New Zealand Warriors a better football team. He has helped change what we expect from them, and if this season ends with the club finally winning its first NRL premiership, I think his move across the Tasman deserves to be discussed among the most influential signings we've seen.

It's a big statement, but the Warriors are giving us plenty of reasons to make it. They've scored 40 or more points in two of their past three games, with a dominant win over Penrith sandwiched between those performances, and I've reached the point where I genuinely think they can win the competition.
There are plenty of reasons for that rise, but so much of what we're seeing starts with Fisher-Harris and the standards he has brought to the club.
Fisher-Harris Has Changed The Standard
The Warriors have had talented teams before, but this version has developed an identity through the middle that continues to hold up even when important players are missing.
We questioned that earlier in the season when Jackson Ford went down after being arguably the competition's best forward through the opening months. Injuries continued to hit the pack, young players were asked to take on bigger roles and there was a genuine concern that the Warriors might lose the forward dominance their game was built around.
Instead, they have continued to find players capable of doing the job and Fisher-Harris appears to be at the heart of the standard they're being asked to meet.
You could see it again in Round 24 when he was prepared to take on Payne Haas and Xavier Willison physically without taking a backward step. We've also spoken about his leadership away from those individual battles, including organising and leading the haka and setting an example for young forwards like Tanner Stowers-Smith, Eddie Ieremia-Toeava and Demitric Vaimauga.
That's where his value goes well beyond metres and tackles. Fisher-Harris isn't carrying this Warriors pack by himself, but he is giving everyone around him a standard to follow.
The Warriors Keep Finding Answers
The impressive part is that the same resilience has appeared elsewhere in the team.
Chanel Harris-Tavita has continually adapted as the Warriors have changed their halves combinations, while Erin Clark has become increasingly important through the middle with his toughness, defence and short passing game. The system has remained relatively simple and whoever comes into the side appears to understand what is required.
That has changed my opinion of their premiership chances. In our mid-season review I thought the injuries, particularly Ford's absence, might leave them hanging around the top four without having enough to seriously threaten in September.
They've made that call look increasingly questionable and are in line to.
A Premiership Would Put The Signing In Rare Company
We've previously looked at why the Warriors can win the 2026 NRL Premiership, and their recent form has only strengthened that argument. Their ladder position also gives them a genuine opportunity to secure a home final in New Zealand, which would make an already difficult Warriors side an even tougher proposition in September.
There is obviously some perspective required before putting Fisher-Harris among the greatest signings in NRL history. The Warriors haven't won anything yet and plenty of great recruits have delivered premierships or transformed clubs over a much longer period.
But Fisher-Harris arrived as a multiple premiership winner from the competition's benchmark club and has quickly become the leader of a Warriors team threatening to create its own history.
If he ends 2026 holding the trophy as captain of the first Warriors side to win an NRL premiership, the conversation changes completely. At that point, we're not asking whether James Fisher-Harris was a great signing. We're asking where the signing ranks among the best.
The Warriors take on South Sydney in Rd 25 this Saturday night at Accor Stadium with kick-off at 5:30 pm AEST.
