New Zealand Warriors vs Sydney Roosters NRL Tips - Roosters and Warriors set to be high scoring

The NRL 2025 Round 3 game between the New Zealand Warriors and Sydney Roosters is anticipated to be a high-scoring spectacle, with experts tipping the Roosters to edge out. Despite the Roosters' defensive struggles in early rounds, their attacking capabilities make them formidable, especially with right-winger Dom Young favored for strong performance. The Warriors have defended well within their zone but struggle creatively near the goal line. Over betting is suggested, considering the game’s expected score margin. Notably, Roosters have a favorable head-to-head record, winning the past eight matchups against the Warriors.

Both teams have shown their good and bad sides across the first two rounds of the season and there is a lot to take out of it. Sydney’s defence in the middle of the park is not great and I expect the Warriors to exploit that with their tough forwards getting a roll on.

Things will slow down somewhat once New Zealand reach the 20m zone where they will likely struggle for creativity against an “in your face” defence from the Roosters which is strong on the goal line.

For Sydney they have the attacking prowess once they get within reach and as long as they aren’t buried in their own half will get their fair share of shots at the Warriors. Manly converted their minimal chances quite easily last week as did the Raiders in Vegas.

The best tip in this game is the Over with defence secondary for both teams at the moment. The contest will likely finish at or within a score so I am taking the experience of the Roosters to be on the winning side. Sydney’s right side wingers have had success against the Warriors - book Dom Young in for a double!

  • Predictive modelling has the Game Total at 50.5
  • The Roosters are last in average Run Metres so far this season.
  • New Zealand have had to defend only 19 tackles inside their own 20m zone but have allowed 46 pts to their opposition in two games.
  • Roosters right wingers have scored 2 tries in 2 of the last 3 matchups.

Head to Head

The Roosters hold a dominant head to head record over the Warriors having won 8 straight games against them.

In the 7 games since the beginning of the 2019 season only 2 have been played in New Zealand with both of those games going Under the Game Total which has happened in 4 of the last 7.

The average winning margin for the Roosters in these 7 games is 16 pts with 4 of 7 being 13+ victories.

The Warriors recovered from their beating in Vegas to put up a strong 36-16 win over the Manly Sea-Eagles last weekend at home.

New Zealand dominated territory and possession in the first half going into the main break with a 18-6 lead. The held the Sea Eagles to just 1204 metres in attack with the visitors having just 3 tackles in the Warriors 20m zone for the entire game. At the other end of the park NZ amounted 51 tackles in the same area.

Luke Metcalf showed why the team has put their faith in him with a try, 6 goals, 1 linebreak, 2 linebreak assist, 2 try assists and 346 kick metres.

The Roosters got away with an emphatic victory over the reigning premiers last weekend in a high scoring battle 38-32. Penrith were pushing late for a come from behind win but the Roosters managed to hold them off despite having a player in the sin-bin.

Sydney are currently the team with the least amount of Average Run Metres at just 1137 even losing the metres battle with the Panthers last weekend.

Defensively they are not looking like the Roosters team from years past with opposition teams over the first two weeks of competition carving them up through the middle and totalling 69 tackles in the Red Zone over the 2 games played.

Sydney Roosters Team News

Some big changes for the Roosters with Spencer Leniu and Victor Radley both being named to return. Lindsay Collins is also back but named on the bench after he missed last week’s game with illness.

Siua Wong reverts back to the bench to allow for Radley’s return. Salesi Foketi was named on the interchange but failed to have his high tackle charge downgraded and will now miss the game. Savala, Losalu or Makatoa are all possibilities of taking his spot.
