You can't knock the Knights right now - you can only beat who's put in front of you and Adam O'Brien's side have done their job, conceding just 22 points in victories over the Tigers and Dolphins. Newcastle now have another somewhat fortuitous game in Round 3, but I'm backing their winning start to 2025 to come to an end at Cbus Super Stadium.

It's always a bit of a risk backing the Titans, who are one of the most unpredictable sides in the competition, but they have an outstanding record against the Knights at this venue, winning the last seven games between the teams at Cbus. Gold Coast have the ability to score points quickly - as they proved with some quick-fire tries in a 40-24 loss to the Bulldogs at Belmore last week in their season opener.

As you can see, defence is always a major issue for the Titans, so with that in mind, Over 49.5 total points (which has consistently landed in recent meetings between these teams) is the main play for this game. I'll tentatively lean with the Titans to record their first win of the season, while Jojo Fifita has a good recent try-scoring record vs Knights and will be the main target out wide with Alofiana Khan-Pereira out injured.

The Knights have won five of the last six meetings between the teams, including 28-24 and 36-14 victories in 2024. However, as mentioned, the Titans have been dominant in this matchup at home, winning the last seven encounters at Cbus Super Stadium.

Granted, facing an inspired Bulldogs side at Belmore was a tough first game for the Titans, who were never really in the hunt as they went down 40-24.

Newcastle have put together a perfect 2-0 start to the season, edging out the Tigers 10-8 in their season opener before easing past the Dolphins 26-12 at home last week.

Kalyn Ponga has played a starring role across the opening fortnight, sitting atop the Dally M standings with 12 points as - alongside young gun Fletcher Sharpe - he orchestrated the big win over the Dolphins.

Ponga had 22 runs for 204 metres last week, while Bradman Best was also strong in the centres, scoring a try and making 213 metres off 18 carries.

Bit of a concern for the Knight as half of their starting forward pack could miss this clash.

Leo Thompson is out with a knee injury, while Kai Pearce-Paul is suspended. Dylan Lucas is also in some doubt after pulling up with a hamstring problem mid-week in training. Lucas and Pearce-Paul combined to make the most tackles for the Knights in the win over the Dolphins last week.

Brodie Jones comes into starting prop, while Thomas Cant is the new name on the pine.
