Where the Manly Sea Eagles finish in 2025: 6

Manly’s success relies heavily on the hamstrings of Tom Trbojevic. It is a harsh statement, but true, with the Sea Eagles winning just over a third of their matches without Turbo.

The new halves combination of Daly Cherry-Evans and Luke Brooks produced plenty of fruitful moments in 2024 and with a year under their belt together, plus another preseason to work on their set-plays and combinations, they have the potential to be extremely potent.

The offseason for Manly was a good one without signing another superstar. Bench depth was an issue for the Sea Eagles last season and they addressed that with the signings of Jazz Tevaga (Warriors), Michael Chee Kam (Rabbitohs) and veteran Siua Taukei'aho (Catalans).

Projected Win total: 14

The computer modelling has Manly with 13 wins this season, however, we have adjusted their projected win total to 14 due to a couple of factors.

Manly have under-achieved on their expected total over the past 4 seasons. Generally a downward or upward trend will be broken after no more than three seasons which means that the Sea Eagles are overdue to break the cycle.

There is always the hopes and dreams of Manly fans that Tom Trbojevic will be healthy the whole season and if that comes to pass Manly are likely to win more games than they have in past seasons with Turbo out.

Best contender for Dally M: Tom Trbojevic

Tommy Turbo is a gun but his hamstrings have held him back for the good part of his career. If the Manly fullback can stay on the field and play close to every game in the season you will see him at the top of the count on awards night.

There is not often a game that Manly wins where Trbojevic is not one of the top two players on the day. Even in a losing side, Turbo has the ability to claim the three votes.

What’s to like

Manly were a different beast at 4 Pines Park last season and were almost unbeatable when playing in front of their home fans, winning 8 of 10 games played at Brookvale Oval.

Although all eyes are on the flashy attack of the Sea Eagles, it was their defence that was the difference when playing at home, averaging just 17.4 opposition points, compared with 25.4 average conceded points outside of 4 Pines Park.

Manly have improved their bench depth in the forwards, adding some known workhorses to the group which will see them compete for a full 80 minutes more often than not.

What’s NOT to like

As mentioned above, Manly were not consistent enough playing outside of the North Shore of Sydney, winning just 6 of 16 games they played outside of 4 Pines Park. They conceded 8 points per game more which is why they only scraped into the finals in the final rounds of 2024.

If the Sea Eagles are going to be true contenders they will need to rectify this problem and also keep Tom Trbojevic on the field.
