Where the Gold Coast Titans finish in 2025: 17
The Titans are a bottom team until proven otherwise. Des Hasler was appointed as head coach at the beginning of the 2024 season and was expected to turn things around, however, that wasn’t the case with the Titans finishing the year in 14th with just 8 wins.
Injuries were a problem for the Gold Coast last season and none bigger than their inspirational captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui who missed most of the 2024 season. A.J Brimson and Jayden Campbell were also in and out of the lineup which caused plenty of disruption in the attacking and defensive combinations.
This season it is hard to say how the Titans will go but the numbers and precedent suggest that they will struggle.
Computer modelling Projected Win total: 7
Wins will once again be hard to come by for the lads from the glitter strip and with the teams that finish below them on the ladder in 2024 improving the Titans are projected to register just 7 victories this season.
The Titans finished last season in the bottom-four in the key defensive statistic categories; opposition run metres (14th), opposition line breaks (15th) and also opposition points (14th). Des Hasler is known for his military style defensive discipline but that certainly wasn’t the case in 2024. If the Titans are any chance of getting more wins in 2025 defence will need to be their top priority.
Best contender for Dally M: AJ Brimson
A.J Brimson is a game breaker and is as explosive and electric as any player in the competition, when he is on the field.
For the Titans to be successful in 2025, Brimson needs to do just that, stay on the field. Injuries have cursed the Titans fullback / half and no matter what position he plays, he can break the game open at the drop of a hat.
What’s to like
Healthy, the Titans props could be the best in the competition with Reagan Campbell-Gillard joining Tino Fa'asuamaleaui in the frontrow, behind them in the backrow they are just as potent with David Fifita and Bea Fermor.
If Hasler can sort out the Titans defence and get the most out of his studs A.J. Brimson and Jayden Campbell then the Titans have a chance to avoid the wooden spoon.
What’s NOT to like
Discipline in defence has been an issue on the Gold Coast for the good part of a decade and they will need to tidy that up in 2025.
The uncertainty of their spine is also a cause for concern. Talks of Jayden Campbell and A.J Brimson starting in the No. 6 and 7 with Kieren Foran on the bench is an interesting thought. Then there is Rugby convert Carter Gordon in the mix along with Keano Kini at the back. If Hasler doesn’t get a consistent spine in order early in the season it could well be the death of them, especially once the usual injuries arrive.
