Sandown Tips June 1

Sportsbet Fast Form Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Sandown Best Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Whateley

The son of Written Tycoon performed with credit in two starts as a juvenile, including when a close up fifth on debut at Flemington.

Whateley has demonstrated improvement this time around, following up a good second at Caulfield on his return to action with a win at Cranbourne.

The three-year-old won by just under a length when jumping at $1.90 for a nine-runner 1400m maiden on May 2.

Trained by Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young, Whateley went on to complete a double when saluting in at Cranbourne just over two weeks ago.

Whateley contested a Class 1 event that day and he looks ready for a return to metro level racing.

Tom Prebble’s two kilogram claim is a positive in this field and jumping from an inside barrier, he can complete a hat-trick.

Sportsbet Green Tick Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Sandown Value Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Tikemyson

The New Zealand-bred gelding registered three wins in his native country, including twice at Otaki earlier this season.

The second of those victories saw Tikemyson get home by a narrow margin when contesting a 2200m Benchmark 75 handicap on a wet track in November.

Symon Wilde’s representative started his Australian career over 1700m and he finished last in that Warrnambool attempt.

He demonstrated marked improvement when stepped up to 2000m for the Casterton Cup, where he was beaten a length.

Tikemyson has raced on a wet surface in both starts since joining the Wilde stable, but he has gone well on quicker ground in the past.

The extra 100m here is a positive and he looks value to record his first win in Australia.

Sportsbet Sandown Cup (Listed) Tips (Race 6)

Sandown Feature Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Loft

Formerly trained in Europe, where he was a decent stayer in 2022, Loft made a slow start to his southern hemisphere career, having missed the whole of 2023.

The seven-year-old failed to make an impact in Listed company in his final two starts of last year and he was switched to hurdles this prep as a result.

Loft has won both starts over hurdles. including by nearly four lengths in a 3200m event at Warrnambool a month ago.

He had previously justified short-priced favouritism over the same course and distance on his jumping debut.

Returning to the flat at Flemington last time, the gelding delivered his best flat start of recent years when fourth in the Andrew Ramsden.

Shane Jackson’s representative should have no issues stepping back up to 3200m for this Sandown Cup attempt.

Sportsbet Samson Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Sandown Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 15 Here The Crowd

Ciaron Maher’s mare broke through when saluting by over a length at Caulfield Heath in April last year.

She went on to register some good efforts subsequently, including when third over 1300m on the Hillside course here next time.

Here The Crowd has also registered a third-place finish over 1400m at Cranbourne and she was spelled following that Benchmark 0-64 handicap effort in December.

The daughter of Trapeze Artist failed to shine when resuming with a tenth over 1100m at Warrnambool at the end of April and she was held-up for a run there.

The four-year-old left that Warrnambool effort behind her when saluting over this distance in a Class 1 handicap at Pakenham last month.

An inside alley is a positive in this contest and Here The Crowd looks up to scoring under Ethan Brown.
