Rosehill’s September 13 meeting highlighted several horses poised for success as the spring season progresses. Modella ran well under tough conditions and is expected to improve for her next starts. Autumn Boy confirmed his class, shaping up as a future Guineas contender and likely to excel over longer distances. Brosnan, despite a modest strike rate, showed resilience and is nearing peak fitness. All three should be followed in upcoming provincial or softer metro races as they continue to build form this campaign.

Rosehill’s September 13 meeting produced a handful of efforts worth blackbooking, with lightly raced types and proven gallopers showing signs of improvement. Each run suggested they are on the right track as spring campaigns develop.

From a Midway mare resuming with promise to a Guineas hopeful on the rise and a galloper regaining form, there were several noteworthy performances for punters to mark down.

Race 1 - Modella (3rd): Was the clear class runner of this Midway field but was set too big a task when settling back and wide, which was against the pattern of the day. Despite that, she closed off well to finish third and looked to have plenty to offer late.

This was her first run back and just her sixth career outing, having twice been competitive at Group level over the autumn. She showed the same ability here when asked to do it under tough circumstances.

With a low rating to work with, she can be placed softly in the coming weeks and is expected to improve again when stepping out over a little more ground.
Race 6 - Autumn Boy (2nd): Showed his quality with two wins from as many starts as a late-season two-year-old and resumed here looking every bit a Caulfield Guineas prospect. A fit stablemate was able to control the race from the front with 3.5kg less, but Autumn Boy was clearly the one to take from the event.

He travelled strongly and picked up well when asked, only peaking on his run in the closing stages. That effort confirmed he has come back in good order and will be fitter for it.

Keen to see him tested at 1600m and beyond, where he shapes as a leading three-year-old of the spring.
Race 8 - Brosnan (5th): While his overall strike rate doesn’t read well, that is more a reflection of the company he was tackling as a younger horse. This preparation he has improved with each run, with Saturday’s effort his third outing since returning from a 12-month layoff.

He was entitled to tire after covering ground in the run and did look to be feeling the pinch at the 200m, but he found a second wind late and was still closing through the line. That resilience suggests he is building well.

Now rated 72, Brosnan can find a weaker race in the short term and looks capable of striking at provincial or softer metro level as his fitness continues to build.
