Race 1 - 11:47AM Sportsbet Green Tick Handicap Tips (1800m)
12. Affaire Vue could be the value in a really tricky affair to open The Goodwood card. Has two 1400m runs under the belt, competitive in the first, and knocked up late second-up after getting into a speed duel.
Her overall form reads mixed, but is lightly raced and almost pinched a race in a similar grade third-up last winter. She'll only strip fitter now third-up.
5. Vaniteux is racing very consistently, with two wins and five placings from nine starts. Hasn't finished outside of the money since December 5. Untried at the distance, but perhaps worth a look now deep into the campaign.
9. Bolted In was the run of the BM70 last Saturday over this track-and-trip. Racing well, but the strike rate is poor.
8. Rousing Refrain comes from the same race as Bolted In. Probably more talented than that rival, but is hoping for a firmer track.
Selections: 12-5-9-8.
Race 2 - 12:22PM Carbine Club of South Australia Inc. Handicap Tips (1050m)
3. Bred ’Em All saluted on debut despite giving experience against some credentialed opposition and was respected in the betting for that April 18 contest as a $5 chance, reeling in Odessa late, who placed again last Saturday and is also a dual winner.
Getting onto the bigger track suits this three-year-old, as will the extra 50m, and this does look another very winnable assignment.
1. Yamashita’s Gold is going well in Victoria. Capitalised on some good touch to salute two starts back before being set a huge task at Cranbourne early last month. Freshen-up and drop back in trip are no knocks.
9. Sassy For Sure hasn't had much go her way, including on April 25 when badly held up. We saw the other very unlucky runner from that race, Dobbinair, salute easily last Saturday.
13. Miss Chevalier is the sole first starter in this field and has been respected in the early market off a big trial win recently.
Selections: 3-1-9-13.
Race 3 - 12:57PM Sportsbet David Coles AM Stakes Tips (1200m)
6. Blue Meteor moved like a nice horse in all his lead-up work. He also travelled well on debut at Pakenham when not quite having the turn-of-foot over five long furlongs, but still wasn't far away in third.
Rise in distance should suit, and his breeding reflects that. It's a really open race, but the Ciaron Maher-trained colt is an each-way price.
4. Brave Hustler was backed at a price on debut at Murray Bridge and landed those bets with a stylish victory. Although the strength of that race is questionable, he couldn't have done any more.
11. Brevitas could be the bolter. His debut was better than it reads when left to find his feet early in a non-speed dominated 1000m affair. Extra furlong will be ideal now.
3. Portarlington was slow away fresh, but ran on okay in restricted room. He gets blinkers applied.
Selections: 6-4-11-3.
Race 4 - 1:32PM Thomas Farms Centaurea Stakes Tips (2033m)
2. Private Legacy won this last year and, in the process, made light work of She's A Hustler, who would be a very short-price favourite in this, while her only loss in two tries over this track-and-trip was a narrow second in the Australasian Oaks last year.
Always needs the first-up run, so don't judge that, while the second-up Queen Of The South effort was sound without luck.
3. Mating Call still feels like she's putting it all together, despite being a Group 3 winner only two starts back before a second in the Australasian Oaks last start. Still not sure on a strong 2000m, but she's classy and probably the starting point here.
9. Maisy, after a good fresh effort, was plain at Rosehill and then had five weeks between runs in the Queen Of The South when strong late. Getting to this journey is a big tick.
5. Brave Miss also comes from the Queen Of The South when second, and she was good when unsuited prior to that behind a flying Gold Coast Belle.
Selections: 2-3-9-5.
Race 5 - 2:07PM Sportsbet Ken and Helen Smith SA Fillies Classic Tips (2546m)
8. Set Me Free has improved as the distances have increased and the Hayes-trained filly broke through at her third run when getting to 2050m at Moe on April 25.
She's certainly bred to handle this longer distance, being by Shamus Award out of Unchain My Heart, who was a dual stakes winner at 3200m. Not easy to pull off deep into a first prep, but she does keep progressing.
11. Angling Angel is probably the most talented filly here, but things just haven't worked out since the encouraging second-up performance at Sale, although there were excuses in the Australasian Oaks third-up. She was also well-backed in the Chairman's Stakes.
1. Boomeroo comes out of the same races as Angling Angel and comfortably got the better of her when second in the Chairman's. She's from the same family as champion galloper and sire High Chaparral.
2. Panda’s Spectrum is another Hayes runner crossing the border. One-paced, but she's strong and honest.
Selections: 8-11-1-2.
Race 6 - 2:42PM Hahn Cummings Stakes Tips (1600m)
2. Arran Bay, despite being a rising eight-year-old, is arguably in career-best form, winning two of his last three starts and improving since the blinkers have been applied.
The latest win came with 61.5kg when sitting on a fast speed and giving weight to all of his rivals. Better placed under the set weights and penalties conditions here and carries 5kg less than he did in that April 11 win.
4. Deakin is an interesting runner. The Cups campaign didn't work out, but he's a classy import who's always shown above-average ability. The mile may be too short, but talent could take him a long way here.
7. Pudding is generally thereabouts in these sorts of races, and connections couldn't have him much fitter now fourth-up. Maps for a soft run under William Pike.
6. Chicago Storm had 60.5kg last time, when he loomed briefly but tired late and was giving weight to all of the trifecta.
Selections: 2-4-7-6.
Race 7 - 3:22PM Sportsbet Proud Miss Stakes Tips (1200m)
1. Aviatress was scratched from the Robert Sangster due to a wide draw. Instead, the five-year-old resumes in this weaker affair against her own sex under set weights and penalties, where she's superbly placed under the conditions.
She brings a great fresh record and certainly looked the part in her latest trial. In a competitive early market, it's surprising that she's not a more pronounced favourite.
12. Kokako has been placed aggressively, but she's a very lightly raced five-year-old and one that could still have plenty of upside. Has won a jump-out since her Pakenham victory on February 19, and all of her wins have come first-up.
13. Naifah visually seems to lack a killer punch, but she does bring really good figures and maps nicely. The form around her Mornington third on return reads okay.
6. Karavas could be the bolter. Wasn't the first and won't be the last to fail at Oakbank, which she's since been freshened up from. Has a huge finish when right.
Selections: 1-12-13-6.
Race 8 - 4:00PM The Sportsbet Goodwood Tips (1200m)
16. Extragalactic has gone from strength to strength since showing above-average talent in her first prep, winning her first two starts this campaign. While the hat-trick eluded her, she was still an eye-catcher when getting too far back in the Tobin Bronze Stakes when second.
That race has produced two of the last three winners of The Goodwood and she gets more options here from a kinder draw, along with a sharp drop in the weights with 50kg, which is 5.5kg less than she carried a fortnight ago.
8. Recon was a touch arrogant in his latest victory when heavily backed in the Hareeba Stakes at Mornington. Overcame trouble in that assignment before letting down strongly from back in the field and comfortably putting away a handy enough line-up.
13. Flying For Fun hasn't won in five attempts over 1200m, but probably should have brought up her first in the Robert Sangster when badly held up before flashing home late to narrowly miss. Has to be in contention off that.
5. Watchme Win leads the local charge. Has been set for this, the extra 100m looks ideal, and he caught the eye late in the John Hawkes Stakes, which is one of the key lead-ups.
Selections: 16-8-13-5.
Race 9 - 4:35PM Canadian Club Handicap Tips (1200m)
2. Gold Spirit recorded back-to-back wins in March, the latest over this track-and-trip, before being thrown in the deep end at Group 3 level.
Perhaps outclassed there irrespective, but he also worked on the speed and was entitled to tire. Drawing out isn't a huge knock in the chute start, while he has tactical speed to roll forward under apprentice Brooke King, who takes 3kg off after her claim.
15. Invertational always needs luck with her racing pattern, but she can let down strongly. Broke a long drought when successful in February, and the two April efforts have both been competitive.
16. Grinzinger Halo, a stablemate to Invitational, comes out of the same race on April 18 when badly held up. Talented enough to include, but might be wanting further.
13. Persian Caviar, Black Caviar's daughter, leads the market and is also accepted for the last at Caulfield where she's first emergency, but draws kinder there, so we're not sure where she goes.
Selections: 2-15-16-13.
