Ascot Best Bet - Race 3 No. 6 Shmoov Moova

Although he has frustrated punters with five defeats since a second-up Belmont victory earlier in the season, the distances were being mixed with Shmoov Moova, going to 1400m and then 1650m before returning to sprint trips.

The gelding appears best suited when prepared as a 1000m to 1200m type.

Shmoov Moova stays at the five furlongs here after a very good return on April 25.

The barrier and tactics both worked against him in that assignment, where he settled back before recording the fastest final 600m and 400m of the meeting.

He brings a strong second-up profile and, with a few more favours from barrier three in this small field, Shmoov Moova is worth another chance.

Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 6 Westbound

A younger half-brother to Group 1 winner Western Empire, Westbound profiles as a typical progressive Bob Peters youngster.

The gelding has built a tidy record with three wins and two placings from five starts.

Westbound improved sharply off his fresh third when saluting at Ascot on April 18, having been left flat-footed in his first-up attempt.

There was plenty of merit in what was already a soft victory, where he sustained a wide run and was allowed to build through the line over 1400m.

The rise to 1800m is expected to suit a three-year-old who is on an upward spiral, while Westbound also carries 1kg less in a very winnable affair.

Ascot Value Bet - Race 8 No. 4 Our Paladin Al

This four-year-old has put together a very consistent record with four wins and five placings from 10 starts.

His only finish outside the placings came in an eye-catching effort from the rear at Pinjarra last winter when finishing fourth-of-14.

That preparation culminated with a Listed runner-up finish at Bunbury, where he was a well-supported favourite.

Our Paladin Al had four runs across December and January, resuming with a third over this track-and-trip before saluting comfortably second-up.

His summer rounded out with an 1800m victory on January 17, where the gelding scored as an odds-on favourite and defeated a subsequent Listed winner in the process.

Ascot Roughie - Race 9 No. 7 Impressive Jewel

Aside from a disappointing January 24 performance before a spell, Impressive Jewel had only missed the top four on three previous occasions, with two of those coming at Listed level.

The mare has generally performed well fresh, recording a first-up win and two runner-up finishes from three attempts.

She has also finished in the placings in every second-up appearance.

Her latest return outing resulted in a Class 3 victory at Belmont in November, where she sustained a wide and early run in a brave performance.

Impressive Jewel held off Belta Of A Song on that occasion, who went on to record back-to-back wins over summer, and from a good draw under Tash Faithfull, the four-year-old should settle handy to the speed.
