Morphettville Best Bet - Race 2 No. 8 Infinity Imperial

Liam Howley’s mare looks well placed crossing the border after some solid Melbourne runs in recent weeks.

She has finished fourth in her last three starts, beaten less than two lengths each time, all over 2100m on the Lakeside track, including two on rain-affected ground.

Her most recent soft-track effort came on August 2, when she ran well for fourth in a Benchmark 70 on a Soft 5, with the winner Dreams Come True since franking the form in Benchmark 78 grade at Sandown.

Last week, she was noted by stewards after a change of tactics saw her taken back from a wide draw, and she closed off fairly on a Good 4.

Back to an inside alley here and down in grade, Infinity Imperial should get every chance with apprentice Taylor Johnstone aboard.

Race 4 - SA Retaining & Civil Handicap Tips (1400m)

Morphettville Roughie - Race 4 No. 9 Komachi

The Irish-bred has shown gradual improvement this prep, finishing second over 1250m here two weeks ago when charging late under Ben Price.

He had resumed with a midfield effort at 1000m before struggling second-up over 1250m in a stronger Benchmark 76, both on the Parks circuit.

Third-up, he got back again but ran on strongly to be beaten just over a length, showing signs he’s ready to strike.

All three runs this time in have come on soft ground, and he stays on rain-affected footing here, which suits.

Komachi has never missed the placings in six tries at this distance, including a course-and-distance win on wet ground last year, and he looks an each-way chance at odds.

Race 6 - UrbanVirons Group Handicap Tips (1200m)

Morphettville Value Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Layeruponlayer

This son of Stratum Star has been in consistent touch, placing in each of his last three starts.

He was runner-up in a 1400m Benchmark 68 at Murray Bridge before dropping back to 1250m to score at metro level in a Benchmark 76 on the Parks circuit.

That form has stood up strongly, with both the third and fifth horses winning since, while he himself was a solid third last time in Benchmark 84 grade at Moonee Valley.

He has shown he can handle both good and soft conditions, making him versatile in this line-up.

Despite a wide draw, Layeruponlayer looks well placed to run another big race with Connor Murtagh aboard.

Race 8 - Aceit Transport Solutions Handicap Tips (1200m)

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 4 Cash

Michael Hickmott’s colt impressed on debut at Moonee Valley last November, settling back before finishing strongly to score by nearly a length.

The race has since proven a strong form reference, with the fourth, fifth and sixth all breaking their maidens.

Resuming at Murray Bridge earlier this month, he was well backed into $2.50 and looked the winner before being run down late by a fitter rival on a Soft 5.

That run should bring him right on, with the first two home putting a clear margin on the rest.

From another wide barrier, Cash still appeals as an entire with upside and looks capable of notching his second career win.
