Race 2 - Jolly Beggar Stakes Tips (1000m)

Belmont Favourite - Race 2 No. 6 Hanchi

Hanchi is the hard-fit sprinter of this feature field and if he can’t breakthrough here, it’s tough to see where his next win comes from.

He looked a stakes-class horse early in his career and while winless in five runs this campaign, he’s working back into form after a 14-month layoff.

The gelding has contested some strong races, including his last two behind Madhi Girl, who completed a hat-trick on August 16, with Hanchi running the fastest closing splits in that event.

He always needs luck given his racing pattern, but this small field should allow him to tack on early without being left flat-footed.

Now down in the weights and striking the right set-up, he finds a winnable assignment.

Race 6 - Unite Resourcing Handicap Tips (1200m)

Belmont Best Bet - Race 6 No. 10 Scully

Scully showed glimpses of talent in Victoria, highlighted by a Group 3 placing at Caulfield over this trip, and he now makes his mark in the west.

The five-year-old trialled well for Neville Parnham before his WA debut, although market confidence wasn’t strong and he drifted late before his first outing on August 16.

Over 1000m, he lacked the speed to hold a spot, but his closing work was excellent and suggested he’s looking for more ground.

The rise to 1200m is ideal, and this race isn’t much tougher than what he faced fresh.

Dropping 3kg from that effort, with residual fitness from a Victorian winter campaign, Scully looks well placed to strike second-up.

Race 7 - Peters Investments Handicap Tips (2000m)

Belmont Value Bet - Race 7 No. 10 Lyrical Angel

Lyrical Angel remains lightly raced for a five-year-old and she showed some ability last winter, placing at stakes level over a similar trip.

Her two career wins have both come at Belmont, including a 2200m success in March before a spell.

She trialled nicely at 1450m ahead of her July 23 return and improved second-up when finishing runner-up after doing early work in the run.

This assignment is harder than her last midweek Class 5, but she drops 3kg in the weights here.

With natural improvement third-up, she appeals as a genuine each-way player.

Race 8 - Morley Growers Market Handicap Tips (1400m)

Belmont Next Best Bet – Race 8 No. 6 Essentric Nature

Essentric Nature was a short-priced favourite when resuming on July 29 but had to settle for fourth, despite closing off well with the second-fastest last 200m of the program.

That race has since proven strong, with three subsequent winners coming from the field, which adds confidence to his form.

Stepping up to 1400m looks the right move off that return effort, and the Williams stable have placed him cleverly.

He drops in grade for this second-up tilt and benefits from a 3kg claim from Chanel Cooper, leaving him well treated at the weights.

With two wins from his three summer starts in WA before a spell, Essentric Nature is well set up to bounce back on Saturday.
