Our race-by-race preview for Morphettville can be found below.
Race 1 - 11:48AM SkyCity Handicap Tips (1800m)
Best: 5. Under The Cone. Backing up from last Saturday is Under The Cone, who was set a big task after a slow getaway.
The four-year-old made good inroads as runner-up in the Autumn Series Final (third-fastest last 200m of the meeting).
1800m is worth a try fourth-up and Jake Toeroek takes back the reins (he's been aboard for all three victories).
Value: 9. Dolcemente. She was plain second-up and Dolcemente was on the seven-day turnaround in that April 26 affair.
The mare was good prior to that at Oakbank and she's better placed in 0-68 grade after contesting two open class events.
Dolcemente saluted third and fourth-up over this track/trip last prep (she's undefeated over the Morphettville 1800m).
Race 2 - 12:22PM Carbine Club of South Australia Inc. Handicap Tips (1050m)
Best: 6. Sav On Ice. One of the fresh horses here is Sav On Ice, who is taking on many rivals who are deep into their preps.
Although he was raw, the grey showed potential in two runs over his first prep, which culminated with a maiden triumph.
Todd Pannell sticks with Sav On Ice for this fresh assignment and the market did respect him in both spring outings.
Value: 11. La Narradora. It was another successful Warrnambool Carnival for Tom Dabernig, who had four winners last week.
Dabernig saddles up Narradora, who broke through at start five before a spell and her April lead-up work was sharp.
The three-year-old impressed in her last showing on April 14, where she bolted in with a 800m trial by seven lengths.
Race 3 - 12:57PM Sportsbet David Coles AM Stakes Tips (1200m)
Best: 1. Brave Design. He had also accepted at Caulfield, but Danny O'Brien has opted for this Group 3 with Brave Design.
His form is strong, with a debut third behind Tentyris (Group 2 winner) and Shining Smile (Listed winner at her next start).
At start two, he was second to Vinrock (subsequent Group 1 winner), while he worked nicely in a recent jump-out.
Value: 10. Shocap. This filly was up early, with an August 20 heat and she also completed two Summer workouts.
Shocap has worked twice in April, with the latest in a good heat and her prior outings on firmer ground were stronger.
She looks a straightforward youngster with tactical speed, so she can put her into the race early from gate three.
Race 4 - 1:32PM Thomas Farms Centaurea Stakes Tips (2017m)
Best: 5. She's A Hustler. Grahame Begg has found an ideal black-type race for this in-form and lightly raced four-year-old.
From six starts, She's A Hustler has four wins and two close seconds, and a hat-trick was completed at Sandown last start.
The mare gave Lavalier (Group placed last two weeks) 4kg on April 9, while she moved well in an April 28 jump-out.
Value: 2. Private Legacy. It's been a mixed bag this prep, with a plain return followed by an unlucky Group 2 attempt.
Her Queen Of The South effort was a little better than it reads and the rise in distance should suit Private Legacy fourth-up.
In her only previous try over this track/trip, the Sydney visitor was a stride off winning last year's Australasian Oaks.
Race 5 - 2:07PM Sportsbet Ken and Helen Smith SA Fillies Classic Tips (2500m)
Best: 3. Chase Your Dreams. The daughter of Contributer impressed at Echuca last start when bolting in over 2100m.
She was scratched from the SA Derby and connections have been rewarded with a kinder draw for this softer option.
Jockey Mark Zahra has been in good form over this carnival and he's aiming for his fourth win in the SA Fillies Classic.
Value: 4. Suntora. A winner of the Strutt Stakes, Suntora was then freshened-up after a plain run in the Tasmanian Oaks.
She was effectively first-up when contesting the Auraria Stakes on April 12, so there should be improvement to come.
Ahead of this staying tilt, Suntora was given a searching workout when ridden past the line in a May 2 jump-out.
Race 6 - 2:42PM Hahn Cummings Stakes (Formerly R A Lee Stakes) Tips (1600m)
Best: 3. Chicago Storm. He's been a good campaigner for connections and this looks the target race for Chicago Storm.
The six-year-old has covered ground in both starts this prep and he improved second-up when going 1200m to 1600m.
He has three wins and a second from four third-up attempts, while he gave a big sight on the speed in this race last year.
Value: 12. Favourite Child. The Listed Matrice Stakes return was sound and she was then beaten a pimple at Oakbank.
Favourite Child has been a handy recruit for the O'Shea & Clarken yard, with five wins from 12 starts for the new stable.
Ideally, she'd have found something a little easier third-up, but the mare is ready to peak and this Group 3 is wide open.
Race 7 - 3:22PM Sportsbet Proud Miss Stakes Tips (1200m)
Best: 13. Bridal Waltz. One of many chances a competitive sprint is Bridal Waltz, who was a slick second-up winner.
Her last victory was the fastest of four 1200m races on the Mornington Cup day card, which included a Listed sprint.
Jamie Melham has ridden two of the last four Proud Miss Stakes winners and she takes the reins on the Victorian visitor.
Value: 2. Boognish. Boojnish beat a smart Right To Party when winning this race last year and her lead-up isn't dissimilar.
1500m+ of the City Of Adelaide saw her out last start, but she contested the same event prior to saluting 12 months ago.
Two starts back, Boognish ran the fastest last 400m of the Matrice Stakes and blinkers are on for the first time here.
Race 8 - 4:00PM The Sportsbet Goodwood Tips (1200m)
Best: 7. Giga Kick. An Everest winner who also took out the All Aged Stakes and Doomben 10,000 as a three-year-old, the gelding only just missed in his 2024 spring target.
Leading into last year's Everest, Giga Kick was big in condition via his two lead-up runs and a shorter turnaround for this autumn/winter is beneficial.
I felt his last jump-out was the pick of his three April heats and as the class horse with 54.5kg under set weights and penalties, he's superbly weighted in The Goodwood.
Next Best: 12. Ameena. With the winner (Charm Stone) in the best going and with this filly denied an outside run early in the run home, Ameena arguably should've won her return outing.
The three-year-old has a 2kg weight swing on Charm Stone from their recent clash and keeping the daughter of Tassort to sprint distances could be the key.
Being only second-up in her third prep, Ameena still has upside, while the first four home in last year's Goodwood all came from the Robert Sangster Stakes.
Value: 10. Volcanic Express. The John Hawkes Stakes can be the right form, with Santa Ana Lane (2018), Despatch (2019) and Savatoxl (2021) all Goodwood winners from that lead-up.
His rating received a big boost following his Listed triumph at Oakbank two starts back and interestingly, blinkers were removed following that victory.
A big, strong galloper who can produce a huge finish, Volcanic Express is still untapped and blinkers have been reapplied for The Goodwood.
Race 9 - 4:35PM Grand Syndicates Handicap Tips (1200m)
Best: 6. Overstrike. This four-year-old opened his prep with a second in the Magic Millions SA 3 & 4YO Classic on March 8.
He then tired second-up after sitting on a fast speed and that winner (Watchme Win) took out a Group 3 on April 26.
Oakbank misses are worth forgiving, as many don't handle that track and Overstrike is also better placed back in trip.
Value: 19. Metrical. The ex-Victorian didn't salute in five appearances over his campaign for the Bain & Taylor stable.
Metrical was still competitive in those early season outings, while the five-year-old is capable of producing a big finish.
Jason Holder has kept the faith and the veteran hoop was also aboard Metrical via a decent hit-out on April 17.
