Gold Coast Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Metalert
Kelly Schweida’s representative went unbeaten in four starts as a three-year-old with all four of those coming on the soft going forecast for this event.
While successful just twice from six starts last prep it’s notable that both of those efforts came over the 1200m distance he tackles here.
The son of Better Than Ready’s first success this season saw him triumph by just over half-a-length in a Benchmark 78 handicap when racing on a good 4 track at Eagle Farm in December.
The pick raced from mid-division on that occasion and similar tactics were employed when contesting a Class 6 plate event at Sunshine Coast the following month.
The four-year-old came home one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals when again racing on a good 4 surface at Sunshine Coast.
While the four-year-old failed to shine in a recent barrier trial at Toowoomba he is unbeaten on the forecast soft going and jumping from three off the rail is selected to resume with a win.
Australian Turf Club Trophy (Listed) Tips (Race 4)
Gold Coast Value Bet - Race 4 No. 6 Rockribbed
The eight-time winner has shown good form over this distance in the past recording wins in four of his thirteen starts over this distance.
The selection has shown good form this prep including when resuming with a third, beaten just over half-a-length in a 1000m Benchmark 90 handicap at Eagle Farm at the start of March.
The seven-year-old could finish only sixth in the $750,000 King Of The Mountain at Toowoomba later that month when racing on a heavy surface that day.
Tony Gollan’s sprinter returned to winning ways under a positive Emily Lang ride when making all the running to salute in a 1300m event back at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.
The son of Night Of Thunder contested a Benchmark 90 handicap held on a soft 7 surface on that occasion.
The pick looks the main pace angle in this field and with a good barrier six off the rail he looks capable of completing a double with Emily Lang retaining the ride.
TAB A.D. Hollindale Stakes (Group 2) Tips (Race 7)
Gold Coast Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Antino
The New Zealand-bred gelding showed up good form in Melbourne in the spring including when winning at the highest level in the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield in October.
The son of Redwood delivered an impressive six-and-a-half-length when victory when racing over 1600m on a sound surface on that occasion.
The gelding went on to lose out by half-a-length in the Group 1 VRC Champions Mile over the same distance at Flemington the following month.
The six-year-old was set a tough task when shipping to Hong Kong for the 1600m Group 1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin in December and he was spelled following that effort.
Tony Gollan’s representative is expected to have improved for his down the field effort in the 1400m Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick on his return to action last month.
The pick went well when racing second up last prep and with underfoot conditions to suit he is taken to register a win on just his second start over this distance.
XXXX Bat Out Of Hell Tips (Race 9)
Gold Coast Best Bet - Race 9 No. 2 Wanda Rox
The five-year-old has been in good form this prep registering a win and two second-place finishes from three starts.
The mare, who failed to shine in Group 3 company when racing down the straight at Flemington in November resumed with a win over 1000m at Eagle Farm at the start of March.
The selection won by just under half-a-length when jumping from barrier five for a Benchmark 90 handicap on that occasion.
The daughter of Wandjina went on to place second when contesting an open handicap over the same track and trip two weeks later.
Both of those efforts came on good going and the mare arrives here on the back of a close second in the Listed Ascot Handicap over 1000m back at Eagle Farm last month.
The ninth home in that contest went on to win returning to Eagle Farm earlier this month and dropping in grade the pick looks up to recording her first wet track win.
