Caulfield Roughie - Race 3 No. 12 Fam Gorman

He was six weeks between runs and dropping in trip at Sandown on April 21, so it may to forgive the last failure and Fam Gorman was going well prior to that.

The five-year-old beat Independent Road to win the Stony Creek Cup only two starts back and that seasoned runner-up is rated above any horse contesting this BM78.

There was more quality to the BM78 that he contested second-up, which was won by a smart Revelare and the runner-up (Kings Valley) was a BM88 winner at his next start.

Caulfield Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 6 Madiyya

This three-year-old is superbly bred, with Madiyya from the same family as Ocean Park (five-time Group 1 winner) and she's also a half-sister to Grunt (dual Group 1 winner).

The Hayes-trained filly put the writing on the wall with a slashing debut second at Pakenham, where she recorded the fastest closing sectionals of the March 27 meeting.

Madiyya relished the rise in trip and kinder draw when bolting in with a high-rating maiden start two, while she's well placed against her own age and sex for this metro attempt.

Caulfield Value Bet - Race 6 No. 11 Mary Eliza

Being by Super Seth and out Bonneval (three-time Group 1 winner), Mary Eliza is well bred and she was competitive in three runs over her first campaign.

It looked a set play going into the Mornington Guineas first-up and after strong market support, she never got a look at them in that 1600m event (held-up).

While there's been no subsequent winners from the race, that field included Movin Out (Group 1 competitive twice this prep) and Stylish Secret (beaten a pimple last week).

Caulfield Favourite - Race 7 No. 11 Saban

3kg claimer Luke Cartwright will be eager to atone on Saban, who was luckless at Flemington via his Anzac Day resumption over seven furlongs.

The four-year-old should've finished a clear second to King Zephyr, a very talented galloper who completed a four-peat there and he would be a short odds-on quote in this.

There's still upside with Saban, who didn't progress in spring after a big fresh win, but he was returning off a long prep that culminated with a fourth in the Queensland Derby.

Wagstaff Group Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Caulfield Best Bet - Race 9 No. 10 Pivot City

He's been very consistent since the ultimate gear change, with Pivot City recording a win and two placings from three appearances this campaign.

Given he was working home vs the bias, his runner-up finish second-up had as much merit than the narrow fresh win (fastest closing sectionals of the Moonee Valley card).

Elouyou (winner) bolted in next start and while he missed as fav at Bendigo, Pivot City ran the fastest last 200m of the card and Sunshineinmypocket franked that form last Saturday.
