Hawkesbury hosts an eight-race provincial program on Thursday, June 4, featuring a strong line-up of progressive contenders. Top selections include Abandonment in Race 4, making his Australian debut, Sapling in Race 6, dropping back in class with strong recent form, and Divine Vicky as a value each-way play in Race 7. Punters should watch for rain-affected track conditions, which could influence outcomes. The expert tip is to back Sapling for the win, with bets also recommended on Abandonment and Divine Vicky each-way.

Hawkesbury hosts an eight-race provincial program on Thursday, with a number of lightly raced gallopers and progressive types looking well placed throughout the card.

Several key chances bring strong recent form references into the meeting, while rain-affected conditions are expected to give punters an important guide across the afternoon.

Hawkesbury Tips June 4

XXXX Gold Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Hawkesbury Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Abandonment

He's perhaps not as suited here as he was at Gosford last Thursday, where conditions were expected to be more testing for the ex-Kiwi.

However, that meeting was abandoned and instead he heads to this Class 1 for his Australian debut, where he will still get rain-affected ground on Thursday.

An in-form Tommy Berry takes the ride after partnering a winning double at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Abandonment was strong past the line in his latest trial and has found a very weak race in which to kick off his Australian career.

The potential saver is Rose Water, who could not capitalise when dropping to country level last start, although there were excuses there, while her prior form reads very well and she gets right down in the weights with 53kg after Siena Grima's claim.

Pioneer Services Provincial Class 1 Tips (Race 6)

Hawkesbury Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Sapling

Sapling looks the obvious selection third-up on Thursday, with the three-year-old plummeting back in grade after a fourth-of-11 finish in a Gosford Midway.

That May 9 event rated superbly, having comfortably bettered the overall times of both the two-year-old opener and BM78 finale, while it was almost a length faster than the Listed Takeover Target Stakes.

She was a month between runs there after being plain first-up, although a tick-over trial was completed after the fresh attempt and the three-year-old now has a fitness base.

Her maiden victory came third-up on a Soft 7 surface last winter before heading to town and racing competitively in her final two-year-old appearance before a spell.

The only spring run produced a half-length runner-up finish behind Columbia Blue, who won a metropolitan BM72 at his next start.

Elite Sand & Soil BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Hawkesbury Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Divine Vicky

Do not look too much into the gap between runs for this third-up attempt, given Divine Vicky is best prepared on the fresh side.

The mare was 28 days between runs second-up after her unlucky Gosford return on April 2 and also found trouble in her latest appearance on April 30.

She was a back-to-back winner last winter, with both victories coming at provincial BM64 level.

Again, the daughter of So You Think was kept on the fresh side for those successes, the latest coming in a decent race against her own sex with half a kilogram more than she carries here.

Although untested at Hawkesbury, which can be a specialist circuit, Divine Vicky has proven effective on most surfaces and, with even luck under Siena Grima, she has at least an each-way chance in the penultimate.
