Belmont Park is back in the midweek spotlight on Wednesday, October 28, with Perth racing returning to the venue for an eight-race program featuring a mix of emerging talent and established metropolitan performers.

Reliable Asset Maintenance Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Belmont Best Bet - Race 1 No. 3 One Last Resort

Some talented opposition has kept One Last Resort out of the winner's stall, with the Sean and Jake Casey-trained gelding recording three placings from his first three appearances as a juvenile, including a runner-up finish behind outstanding stablemate Beatty.

That form looks particularly strong following Beatty's impressive Listed Perth Stakes victory at Ascot last Saturday, while One Last Resort was subsequently spelled after finding the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate beyond him in April.

The son of Tassort returned at Northam on October 15 and produced an encouraging second behind smart debut winner Blue Destiny, who led throughout, with another three lengths back to third-placed Yamanex, a stakes-placed juvenile who had also been competitive in Saturday company during September.

There appears to be genuine depth to that Northam maiden, which was the fastest of three 1100m races on the program, while fifth-place finisher Capall Gasta wasn't disgraced in Listed company last Saturday, adding further substance to an already encouraging first-up performance.

Champion jockey William Pike replaces apprentice Natika Riordan, and with the extra 100m expected to suit, One Last Resort looks ideally placed to break through second-up, particularly with Pike striking at better than 27% for the Casey stable over the past 12 months.

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Consignment

A patient approach could be rewarded with Consignment, with the Neville Parnham-trained three-year-old returning as a gelding after showing considerable promise against some of Western Australia's leading juveniles last season.

The son of Playing God is out of Silver War, a full sister to four-time stakes winner Dainty Tess, and immediately showed ability when runner-up behind Beatty on debut last November before being spelled.

Although unable to threaten when resuming in the Listed Perth Stakes on April 4, Consignment responded positively to a drop in grade, producing a determined on-speed victory over 1200m at Ascot on April 22 before failing in the WA Sires' Produce Stakes at his final appearance of the campaign.

His October 12 Belmont trial offered plenty of encouragement, settling outside the leader before quickening nicely to win a heat by more than a length, with stablemate Achy Breaky the only runner to record a faster 850m trial that morning before returning with a Listed placing at Ascot last Saturday.

Steven Parnham reunites with the gelding, who has already shown enough tactical speed to make good use of barrier five, and although he may eventually appreciate longer distances, the 1200m Class 1 looks an excellent starting point for a progressive galloper who should have stronger assignments ahead.

Glenroy Chaff Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Belmont Value Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Centre Bond

A wide barrier should present few concerns for Centre Bond, who generally prefers to settle off the speed before working home with galloping room, and the frustrating six-year-old looks capable of producing a competitive performance at generous odds.

The Graeme Ballantyne-trained gelding had excuses early in his preparation, appearing in need of his first-up outing at Pinjarra before encountering interference second-up, although his following two performances were below expectations in stronger Saturday company.

A gear change brought a more encouraging effort at Ascot on October 14, with blinkers replacing winkers and the son of Bondi making late ground over 1200m, suggesting the return to 1400m could be exactly what he needs to produce his best.

There is plenty of substance to his earlier form, including a Saturday metropolitan placing over the Belmont 1400m last spring, which followed a third-up victory over 1200m at this venue, and while he has yet to reproduce that level this campaign, his ability to finish strongly remains an asset.

Jarrad Noske retains the ride after recording a winning treble at Northam on Sunday, and the combination could prove dangerous in an open penultimate race at a big each-way price, especially if the swoopers are in play.
