Australia come into this series with an injury cloud hanging over them with the late loss of Adam Zampa and Josh Inglis adding to a thinner lineup due to the Aussies preparations for the Ashes and juggling injuries.

India have come to the shores with a new sense of vibrants with Shubman Gill leading the perfect blend of experience and young talent. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will have their leadership shackles off and can focus on their cricket, which is a dangerous place for them to be in from an Australian perspective.

You expect nothing less than a captain's knock from Gill who is tipped to score over his batting total of 33.5 and even score a half century, putting behind him the ( runs he scored in the Champions Trophy semifinal and reverting to the form he had in India’s last series versus Australia where he totalled 174 in two matches.

If Australia are a shot then the quicks are going to have to do the damage and Nathan Ellis troubled the Indian batsmen the most in the Champions Trophy with 2 wickets and an economy of 4.90.

Head to Head

The head to battle is as close as it comes between India and Australia with either team always possessing the kit and squad to win the series. In the last 15 series between the two nations, Australia leads the count 8-7.

The last time the two nations faced each other was in the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy where India chased down the Australian total of 264 with 11 balls remaining and 4 wickets in hand.

Australia Form

Australia's ODI form has not been crash hot, bowing out of the Champions Trophy against India in the semifinal after beating England in the opening match of the tournament and playing out two no results which got them through to the knockout stage.

Since the backend of 2024, Australia have played ODI series against Pakistan (1-2), Sri Lanka (0-2) and South Africa (1-2) losing all three. Injuries and lineup adjustments have all played their part, however it is no excuse for the lack of one-day form.

Batting has been the concern for Australia in all forms of the game, especially the top order, who really struggled in the opening two matches against South Africa. The dead rubber in the third boosted the Australian numbers, but the consensus was a concern after the Proteas' visit to the Aussie shores.

Australia Squad

Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

India Form

India head to Australia in fine One-Day International form after winning the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai after going unbeaten against Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand in the group stage, then taking care of the Aussies in the semi before beating the Kiwis by 44 runs in the final.

Shreyas Iyer led India with 243 runs from 5 innings at bat, while Virat Kohli put in another master performance with an average of 54.50 and a top score of 100*. The Indian bowling attack was as clinical as expected with spinner Varun Chakravarthy collecting 9 wickets from just 3 innings and Mohammad Shami creating his usual problems for their opposition also taking 9 wickets in the tournament.

Earlier in the year India whitewashed the English  3-0. That had to go in here with the Ashes just around the corner.

India Squad

Shubman Gill (capt), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal
